Dogwood suggestion?

I really want a dogwood for a filtered shade area in my yard. I've been told that the following can be found in the nursery trade here:

Cornus florida (white)
Cornus florida "rubra"
Cornus kousa (white)
Cornus "Eddie's white wonder"

Has anyone tried any of these in California and had any luck? I did find a photo of Cornus florida "rubra" that was being grown in Eureka. It looked pretty healthy.
