'Frosty Pink' is back in the garden after being cut back to bare bones the first week of October and then being inadvertantly pruned again when a tree was being taken down. She's made a miraculous recovery.
Frosty Pink on a Gray Morning
Looking really good. Very slow here. The next several days are supposed to be getting warmer, so maybe things will really take off now.
looks good. Mine has buds but no blooms yet.
Mine has three blooms and lots of buds this morning.
Well Candy, I have a bone to pick with you. LOL. I went out and sprayed all my plants with fish emulsion. Even worse I sprayed my seedlings and cuttings in my house under lights with fish emulsion. LOL. My DH said last night, what is that AWFUL smell??? Fish emulsion?? He said as soon as he walked into the yard he could smell it. He then said "Please tell me you didn't use it in the house!!" LOL I am in deep doo.
And all I wanted was a yard like yours. LOL
Nice Frosty!!
ROTFLMAO!!!
You got a sushi yard!!!!
LOL
Kell did you miss the part about:
get the odorless kind
be ready for cat mania
DH will whine about it even if it doesn't really smell
If you are a bit peeved with your DH, the only thing better than fish emulsion and crazy cats is running the self cleaning oven full tilt for several hours after intentionally running cheese all over the bottom of the oven. :-)
Oh great CC, I may never eat sushi again. LOL. You can not believe the stench. I t is going to rain today I pray and wash it all away!!
OK, so you did mention that Candy, I NOW remember. A bit too late. I have brain crud so I am not responsible for what and how much I remember. LOL. I am still blaming you to my DH. You do not have to live with him. CANDY MADE ME DO IT!!
It looks great!
Kell, trying having a gallon jar of fish emulsion break in the trunk of your car. LOL That happened to me a few years ago, and I didn't think I'd ever be able to drive that car again. Needless to say, DH was very unhappy with me. He said he felt as if he were driving a dirty fish aquarium.
candy, it's beautiful!
it's raining here, and very WINDY. at least i don't have to water the plants.
Frosty is always so pretty and dainty looking
Oh gosh Sylvia, what a mess that must have been. Sometimes when I leave a bag of manure too long in the back of my wagon in the hot summer, my car gets pretty ripe. LOL.
Annapet, do you believe it.....more rain. I like it. I wish it would rain in the summer here so I would not have to water so much. I think the plants like rain much more than hose watering also!! Though it better not rain this weekend. We are going to Hog Island for so fresh oysters and champagne for Father's Day. They are getting so fancy there, I had to reserve a table. I can't wait.
Frosty is lovely Candy :-)
Phewwwwwwww there is this horrific odor coming from south and slightly west of here, being wafted into my garden on the winds of the storm coming through! Is that you Kell?????? LOL
She would be very nice to see on a gray morning. Jeanette
LOL Candy. Yes, it is me stinking and you best not come by here. My husband will get you. LOL He asked me tonight where you lived. LOL LOL
Hey, do you belieive this rain? I like it. I can skip a day or 2 of watering.
My poor brugs want sun not more rain (it's pouring outside). You're welcome to have the rest of our rain.
Three earthquakes and now rain! I know the earthquake part is typical Calif., but rain in June! It was so lovely today though, nice after a couple of weeks of dry and finally warm.
I am posting a shot of what I suspect is a Frosty Pink, it was my first brug years ago from a nursery, no name of course. Any confirmation?
I think Frosties are the only brug sold here before . Even now, I never see another pink kind. I saw ones labeled Ecuador Pink the other day, but I would have to see the bloom to believe it.
Did you believe the tsunami warnings? Freaked me right out.
Oh yeah, forgot to add the the tsunami part...are we really in Calif.?!!
Seems like it's only us west coast night owls up too. Ok, Kell, follow me over to the tropical forum, got some shots to share there and found a couple of hot 'pepto' pink coleus at Target of all places, (I always think of you now when I see that color!) so I may post those over in the coleus forum and then, let's see, maybe the Calif. forum, lots of pics today with the perfect overcast day. Oh and I found a couple of the shorter variety wide open blooms of abutilions at Home Depot too. Which reminds me that I have to post on the succulent forum on Candy's strawberry pot thread, found a glazed pot and lots of little goodies for it at both Target and HD. You never know what you may find at those 2 places sometimes!

Oh shoot. I hope I hate it all or I will have to come to San Jose for a shopping trip. LOL I am on the hunt for some pots too, pottery ones. I need about 20 gallon ones. I am doing my secret garden chair area and I so not want to look at black plastic. I was over at Norcal today, they have ugly pots left!! Though I did get 2 pedestal pots.
How funny, I almost headed over to Norcal today too but got a late start and decided to try another time. It's a hit and miss thing there sometimes, Candy said the $15 sale isn't on right now but I still wanted to see about picking up a few big pots or something special.
Ok, 'splain the 'secret garden chair' thing!
Sorry Candy for hijacking this thread!
No problem Sue.....I'm glad to help as a major facilitator in the "Gardeners Who Love to Shop" category! Do you suppose we ought to ask Dave for a forum for our little group?
Tsunamis, earthquakes, rain storms in June........can hijacking be far behind?? What a crazy week it has been.
Naw, no hijacking, well, just thread hijacking. See, we already had the 'comes in threes' thing, tsunamis, earthquakes, rain storms, so the rest of this week should be normal. Of course, there is the rest of the month left...
Well at least today looks incredible!
LOL Sue. A friend has a secret garden and I thought that was so romantic. What great images it conjured up to me.
So I looked around my puny yard for a place for a secret garden. I had none!! But my DH suggested I put a table and chair hidden from view in my courtyard. I have the courtyard filled with potted plants so it was not hard to make a little alcove tucked away. So I did. LOL. I now have a secret chair. I sit there in the morning to have my tea. I am surrounded by beauty.
Of course the other morning my joy was ruined in my secret chair, I sat there in olfactory distress. I had just sprayed my plants with fish emulsion first, then sat down to tea after. LOL. Candy made me do it.
LoL, yeah Kell, I read your sensory distress disatser, and your DH's too! Not the tea taste to be enjoyed and savored I would imagine!
Love the exciting bright spot you got there, I think I need one too! Right off my bedroom sliding back door.
Ok, I am off to Navelets Fremont, Home Depot Fremont, Lowes Fremont maybe Norcal and then of course the HD near that and oh then who knows. Should really stay home and do some house cleaning (ehh) or planting but I think the hunt for goodies is more my style of gardening lately, much to my DH's displeasure. (I promise to clear the patio of little pots and bags of potting soil and manure dear so you can walk thru, soon..really...when I find the time, maybe I can buy some of that too...at a bargain) :-)
Shoot, Sue leave something for me. LOL and report back on that strawberry pot. I NEED IT!!
Kell -
I think Sue gonna be ahead of you!! Head north to the one in Concord.....they had two of them left last weekend, but I think I already posted that over on the Strawberrry Pot thread. :-)
there was ANOTHER earthquake an hour or so ago. did you feel it?
oh, a secret garden. in a few years for me....it's all bare and naked here.
kell, i was reading your post, and before you mentioned fish emulsion, i did remember that you just sprayed....
candy's garden must be heaven. i've seen parts of it and i'm just amazed everytime.
Is there a photo of the strawberry pot??
I found the strawberry pots, thanks!!!

I just got home. I took out of here this morning to beat Sue to Navlets and Norcal. LOL. I am now so broke. LOL. But no strawberry pot. They had a short one all planted as a display, like yours Candy, but it was a short one. I need a big one. How tall is the one Sue and I covet??
Sue, how did you do????????????????
wow, wonder if we crossed paths anywhere? The only strawberry pot I saw a Navelet's was the plain brown one, same size as my $20 HD one except it was $60, Yikes! Gave me an idea what that big one would be.
I came home with my trunk absolutely crammed! 3 HD, all with different items, 1 Lowes and the Walmart in Milpitas on the way home. They had a couple of 50% off items, 2 hydrangas for $2.72, a Queen Palm for $10 and the plant below for $7.72. Not sure what it is yet, it was just so lush and big and I liked the bright blue trumpet bloom.
Where are we, what forum is this? LOL
Looks like a thunbergia erecta, right Ada? LOL You can get that bloom on different forms of thunbergia, even a wild vine. I have never seen that one around here. I have the vine and a few close relatives.
Did you see anymore of the $14 fancy hibiscus?? I stopped at a HD in Fremont hoping but none.
I bought 2 more 5 gallon ones at Navlets. And I bought a couple of big ears. I have resisted ears for several years now, and suddenly I am taking the plunge. I bought a ginger too and a 5 gallon red banana like the one Candy had that I have lusted after for a year. I have no room for all this at all.
Hanging out on the tropical forum and listening to some good friends talk tropicals all the time, has finally gotten to me. And they are all huge plants. I really need mental help. I am on the hunt for a good tall willowy grass to go into a really odd shaped pot I bought.
Oh did you see the 1 gallon Voodoo lilies at Navlets?? Kin has been showing me his, so I of course had to buy 1. Now I need a place to tuck it.
It is a vicious cycle, you buy pots for plants you have, then plants for pots you bought. We got home from sushi and my car had the windows all fogged which was good and it was bad. The wet windows drew my DH's attention, he knew it meant there were plants in there but then he couldn't see clearly thru them at what I had in there. LOL.
Though the new pots were all over on his walk thru the courtyard. Hard to miss. I just had no comment when he barked at them. LOL Like they weren't mine and I had no clue why they were suddenly there to clutter up his life more. Maybe the cats bought them. Tomorrow if he says anything more I will tell him Candy made me do it with all her wild plant talk. LOL
Edited to add the link I posted here to do. LOL

It looks like Thunbergia Battiscombie to me. Maybe they are the same. A great plant, but the blooms that fall on wood or cement will temporarily stain if not picked up right away.
Let's see, I bought SOMETHING at Navelet's! Can't remember what, there was so much in my car by the time I got home. Oh I know, some organic hibiscus food and a nice red kangeroo paws. I did see that Voodoo Lily, I soooo resisted. But am still thinking about it. It is a nice looking plant too and not a bad price. And I was going to go get one of those big ears too, the biggest one and forgot after I finished strolling thru. Another trip. I have the same problem with hanging out on the tropical forum, so many tempting things, really no room but then I have big pots.
So you must have picked up Rum Runner Hibiscus, they were real nice looking.
Also stopped at Norcal, what a disappointment, I never have been there and just walked out empty handed. I will try again in a couple of weeks.
I too didn't find any more hibiscus at any of the other HD either, except one untagged one at the San Leandro one. At the Union City one, I found a large 5 gal. Dragon Wings red begonia, some leaves a little tattered looking but they can be trimmed out. At the Lowes in Union City , I did find a 5 gal. Sensation hibiscus, got that one. So the only hibiscus I saw a few days ago were the 3-4 at the Great Mall HD, I can check and see whats left as it's right around the corner and on Capitol Expressway. I did pick up one of those new Ruby Star mandevila they had.
My hubby never saw any of my stash, I unloaded and scattered them right into the backyard and he never went out there. He knows where I was though and I did tell him about my 1/2 off deals, he likes deals. Just didn't bother to mention the gazillion other things that have come home with me in the last couple of days.
Suport group anyone? :-)
