If you make a bed of coir on top of the cells you are planning on putting the seedlings in, it is easy to move them with tweezers or tooth-picks, laying them on the coir. The white root stands out against the dark coir and then you can use the toothpicks to bury the root and stand the seedling up. It goes much faster this way. If I am doing all one kind in a 6-pack, I move all the seedlings over first and then use two toothpicks to manipulate the seedlings. You get a very good looking job when you are done. I do not use the coir topping if there are long roots, though you could. I tamp the coir down lightly, so that the bed is flat. I am using a equal coir/perlite/vermiculite mix so there are not any interface problems between the pure coir top and the mix underneath.

Easier to keep them damp this way for the first few days until the root has a chance to grow down into the cell. It has worked out well in practice as those that I did this way are doing well.
