Driving is no problem with me I am breaking up the trip at this point anyway. Do you still sail? I have a 22' S2 (Grandslam) that Karen and I plan to travel with in a couple of years when we have more time off.
North of Churchill River, Saskatchewan
Not mine (I was just a deck swabber).......it belonged to a cousin. He is a past-president of the Manitoba Sailing Assoc: http://www.sailmanitoba.com/about/about.htm and is now involved with the Ontario Sailing Assoc. : http://ontariosailing.ca/
If I can get ahold of him I'll dmail you his address/phone #. He knows Manitoba, Ontario (and some of rest of the world) very well (sailing wise).

I have enough sites in Alberta and BC to keep me busy after I retire.
I've got a cousin at the coast that also owns one......he's retired RCMP Jet pilot and now works for Government inspecting all planes that fly there (he's about your age).
The one above tho, I'm sure, knows Lake Winnipeg very well and the waterways leading to Lake of the Woods.
I'm focused on the Voyegeur route now. I have sailed a lot here and puget sound It doesn't get much better.
Also how do I get to Lk of the woods from Winnipeg?
That's why I mentioned the first one....if there is a water route, that a canoe could take, from Lake Winnipeg to Lake-of-the-Woods he'd know that as well.
Yes I have seen it but it has a long portage. Looks like the river is small also. I think I'll end at the take-out on L Winnipeg and go home. Then do the Grand Portage to Lake of the Woods when my permit lets me at a later date. Besides that lets me go down river all the way. LOL
Prolly wise and sounds like you know it well too. ;)
