Trust me Tod will have it ID'ed in no time. ;)
Feeling Blue
Allium caeruleum...I have a couple of clumps just starting to bud...one of only 4 'blue' ornamental onion species (I have 3 of the 4)...the ornamental onions are one of my favourite groups.
Oooooww, I have several Alliums, but not a blue one like that. It's lovely, cybercrone. Thanks for the ID, Todd. Now I'll know what to look for. :)
It's a commonly available ornamental onion, purchased in the fall. The other blue onions are small, rock garden plants that are grown from seed.
Georgeous blues and pics Joan! Ü
Todd, the blue of the Gentiana angustifolia is incredible. I've written that one down for next year.
Your subjects are beautiful and your photography is excellent.
Joan
That gentian is often sold as G. acaulis, but many are in fact, G. angustifolia. Both are very similar, but angustifolia has a 1-2" flower stem while acaulis is practically stemless.
Your gentian are GORGEOUS Todd.....I purchased one this year again and hope to see that lovely shade of blue. Had one before that bloomed Ü but it didn't survive the winter (am hoping we will get back to milder winters here ;).
Todd, I e-mailed you to ask If it was too late to plant a gentian, if you have any seed left, and if so, could I get some for next year?
And there's another Alpine blue of yours that I'd love to have, the Omphaloides verna, if you get some seeds.
I know just where I'd put them on my roof garden
Has your e-mail changed, or did the message just get lost in the ether?
Thanks Todd. You are a scholar and a gentleman.
