Brugs blooming :)

Mysore, India(Zone 10a)

I mentioned sometime ago in a thread... February to be precise, that so many white brugs are in bloom and I was very happy to enjoy that sight. But I was away from home for that week and had asked my elder daughter to take a picture of the same and had shown the angle from where she has to position herself. That film roll was over Sunday and here is the picture [and more in other threads] I promised to post. The buds come out yellowish and the bloom is lovely soft white. But unfortunately I have one healthy plant - this one, but the other is not doing well at all. So, this is the picture taken by her. On the right side of the picture is my pond, not seen of course.

Pretty blooms. Thank you for taking the time to take and post this picture.

Any idea what is wrong with the other brug what isn't doing well?

Judy

Zion, IL(Zone 5a)

those are pretty.
the only whites I have so far have turned out to be skanky plants and are just being ignored in sweltering hoophouse.

Chariton, IA(Zone 5b)

Is this your very first brug, Dinu? Are you hooked on them now? LOL! I'm glad you have one blooming. Bet your neighbors are very interested.

Livermore, CA(Zone 9a)

Dinu, Thank you for sharing your picture with us. We all love to see each other's blooms.
I was curious as to whether you see many brugmansia's planted in India.

Pocahontas, TN(Zone 7b)

8th,

What does this mean "skanky plants"? I'm way back in the woods and don't watch TV or get to the big city much (cause that's the way I like it) but the only drawback is not being up-to-date on language or trends.

Judy

Zion, IL(Zone 5a)

Excuse my slang or colloquialisms or whatever it'd be called.
I thought it was some southern-speak that's stuck with me. skank/skanky/skanked up - derogatory reference to being ugly, nasty, unkept, motheaten, trashy.... you get the general idea.

So after the extra heat from being near the space heater, then the spider mites adopted it. They are pale green, splotchy with reddish dots all over like bad acne and kind of emaciated looking. Yeah - they're all skanked up now! I think I'll see if it wants to grow in the compost pile. In fact, WONDERFUL idea. I'm gonna go plant it there now.

wanna see a pic? there's no shame in my game. I figure we've all got a little dirty laundry laying around somewhere. :)

Pocahontas, TN(Zone 7b)

I have lots of 'dirty laundry' and would love to see yours!! (lol lol) Also do you remember the names of the Brugs? I'm trying to make a list of those I should shy away from.

Thanks.....

Awwwww, it'll grow some more leaves :-)

Pocahontas, TN(Zone 7b)

I would yank him out of that pot, put him in the ground and water him good and see what happened. I vote for giving him another chance. Aren't I pitiful I try to save everything. ...............

Judy

PS You will notice I referred to the Brug as a "him"....humm I don't know why

Vancleave, MS(Zone 8b)

Congrats Dinu. It looks wonderful

Woodsville, NH(Zone 4a)

Very nice blooms Dinu. Congratulations.

Dinu, I bet your enjoying the brugs in the evening in your courtyard. I sure do love the picture of your new pond and private garden area. Looks like a very nice area to sit back and relax in the evening.

Pocahontas, TN(Zone 7b)

Sorry Dinu, didn't mean to hijack your thread.

Judy

Mysore, India(Zone 10a)

So, you'd yank that skanky plant out and give it a kick in its pants, Judy? No, not at all.. some good hijacks are welcome!

GG Kin,
Oh yes, it's nice to be sitting in the evening, watching them.... but then those blooming gnats wont allow you to do that -- they are very jealous of people enjoying peace! With the rains, their tribe is increasing.

And you know what was in store today... my film camera is empty... there are 23 white blooms in the same plant! I have now begun to observe that it blooms profusely after a couple of weeks of good rains. Does that happen there too?

The other plant is nearly skanky, but there are some leaves to keep it alive. It did bloom before last year's summer. I think the problem is with the roots.. there is some knotty formation just at the point where the stem is out of the ground. I don't know what it is.

It's not my first set of blooms, but it every time seems like that .... the spirit should be that way, to all of us!

Dinu

Those Gnats sure do spoil the peaceful moments don't they! I have bad reactions when they bite me. Usually end up on antibiotics from a single bite. Sure hope they don't have the same effect on you. Thanks again for sharing your photos.
We have had lots of rain here so I can't say that a good rain helps with a flush of blooms. It has also been very cold almost like fall weather.

GGK,
I think we are immune to the bites from these little beasts. The ones that trouble outdoors are called 'garden mosquitoes' and they are small and venomous! They have a striped body, B&W. They have another knack of selecting and biting in such a way that we cannot feel it and in such places where our range of vision is not reachable! We begin to scratch that part only after this beast has had its fill! And we are busy doing just that for the next ten minutes ending up in a red rash. Man's worst enemy this! The ones that bite -- should I say pierce -- us indoors is another variety that flies around noticeably, so that we can swat them -- these are bigger and more foolish than its outdoor counterpart. Indoors variety do their job after dusk, but the other one is active from dawn to dusk. Is it Nature's way of taking care of garden-people, for all the good work we contribute to the Environment?

Judy, lemme know some nice word so that I can use it on these little beasts.

Dinu

Pocahontas, TN(Zone 7b)

Dinu,

I don't think there are any 'nice words' to use on those insects.

Judy

Mysore, India(Zone 10a)

Judy,
Ha ha ha. I meant to say that that 'nice word' is meant to scold or throw abuses! It should sound nice.

Pocahontas, TN(Zone 7b)

Cute, what you said, not the insects!!!

Judy

lagrange, GA(Zone 7a)

Nice Dinu.

Mysore, India(Zone 10a)

Thanks Jim.

Did not you come up with a 'nice word' yet, Judy? The problem is increasing and I want to scold those creatures!

Dinu

Pocahontas, TN(Zone 7b)

That made me smile. I'm thinking.......

I noticed a new thing this morning. Early morining. They were looking more fully open than I had seen before. Like the one in this picture taken this morning - esp. one in the centre.

Dinu, did you ever get any of the brug seeds to grow that I sent you? Have wondered if they had color?

Mysore, India(Zone 10a)

This was how it all began.
