I planted several seedlings on my front porch in a nice big pot with trelis. These seedlings have been out there now over 2 weeks and haven't grown one bit.....they're not dead or dieing either.
Should I be feeding them more or what?
What's wrong with my 'Moon Vine' seedlings
Mine seemed really slow to start too but they have finally started growing.
i dont even feed mine. if they get fedd its the run off miracle grow from other things. how much sun are they getting?? i had a few that were in shade and wouldnt grow at all then i put them in morning sun as our afternoon sun is too hot and now they are putting out runners.
if its the purple ones mine have been really slow. i put them in the sun the other day to see what happens.
i think its the crazy weather. we just had 10 days of straight rain. my poor moonvines are waterlogged. i had to throw them little life perservers.
I have given them 1 or 2 applications of compost tea and they do get a good deal of early afternoon sun and than filtered sun in the hotter later afternoon.
Thanks for the replies................. :-)
I think the weather is playing a big part in it. I still have seedlings in my beds from seeds I planted in March. Usually they are up & blooming by now. :~(
I too, think it has been the crazy weather. We had cold weather up until this week, now in high 80s. Only 1" of rain in May..........no more since. Things are just bginning to grow, but with no rain, they will be going backwards.
I never fertilize mine, they just grow. The purple is the slower one to grow and set pods.
I've decide too it must be the cool nights that are keeping them from taking off. I'll just be patient a bit longer :-)
Thanks for all the replies everyone.
Marc,
Mine have sat there for THREE weeks and have not budged! But the Morning Glories they are planted with, WOW!
BTW, got my new digi last night so I will get ya a picture tonight! GUESS WHAT ELSE! I found two FRONT ROW tickets on TicketMaster to see Stevie Nicks at Red Rocks! I am walking on clouds! Or is it the cough syrup????
Anyway, let us just hope its the way the Moon Vines grow, I hear they may take a while to get going, but once they do, bring out the machete!
James
Mine have done the same RikerBear, and my caldium has done nothing either. I'm waiting...
Viv
Well sorry to hear others are having the same problem with their vines....but also am pleased it's not just me :-)
Congrates on the tickets James! I know you'll have an amazing time.
Viv my caladiums aren't doing much either, but at least I know that's becouse of our lower temps as of late.
My experience with moonflower vine seedlings is that they like heat. I have raised them in both zone 7 and 8A in the south east in locations where they got sun from noon to late afternoon.
Of course my zone 8 is NOT your zone 8. I have been in Seattle during August. I thought I had deplaned into heaven.

Marc, My caldiums swelled up and exploded....... like big puss filled boils... ick, sorry but thats what I thought when I saw them.. so I guess I will have to hit the nurseries and buy me some already started cause I really want some.
BTW, I have one moonvine that might make it out of a whole package of seed, maybe a dozen assorted MG's I hope, if they make it.
Viv
It's very odd.....my MVs are just no starting to vine and grow some....the MGs are WAY behind too. Not a good year for annual vines I guess :-)
Sorry about your exploding caldiums....sounds very 'Alien'
Marc
my mgs and mv are looking pathetic. very tiny and not growing at all. i think its this dand burn rain. just way way too much.
Sorry to hear that, but glad it's not just me :-)
Okay, so I'm in the deeeeep south, but my MV took forever to bud out & it's like they have frozen with about 6 leaves on them. We've had ~ 100 degree temps for about 3 wks and no rain. I'm watering every day! The MGs looked great, but have now petered out. I'm on the 2nd batch of seedlings now. Anyone need any seeds??? LOL! The hyacinth bean and sweet pea look great, but the cypress vine & clematis....well, I haven't seen any of them! GRRRRR!!!!
My OH my, sounds like a bad year for vines... geeesh.
Viv
i looked at mne today in my dreary southern home and some of my mgs are gonners.
i have always had mgs and his year i dont have any. :( maybe i will try a fe indoors and see if they will go that way.
All my vines (except for Gloriosa and my clematis) are slow getting started this year. However, just within the last week my Moonvine and Vigna Caracalla are starting to put out some significant growth.
I can't blame the slow start on too much rain. It is horribly hot and dry here. My grass is already crunchy and while watching the Weather Channel, I look in envy at the deep Southern folks that are getting rain. :(
Sounds like we may get some rain this weekend *fingers crossed* :)
They keep teasing us with the possibility of rain here, but it hasn't made it to East Tennessee in a while.
will send it to you. i dont want no more!!!
Thank you! :)
Whew, that was quick imzadi! It really did rain! Ok, just a little, but it really did. I was thinking of dancing in the rain when it stopped, LOL. Can you send me some more? ;)
lol i glad someone else got it and not me today. calling for more tommorow so will send it on its way. lol
Hey mydaisy, it's my turn please!!! oh....ok, I'll share.
Got just a tad bit more today, just enough to settle the dust. Thanks imzadi! Nathalyn, maybe you'll get some too!
