Big leaves

Keaau, HI(Zone 11)

Suddenly I have one that size on the IML 88...looks very similar. Will post it.

Houston, TX(Zone 9a)

Thanks, Carol. I'll remember to add the (aff.) when appropriate.
Donna, the leaves were almost that big when Carol sent it!!! I'm not sure what she was feeding it or (juicing) it with! LOL!
I feed mine with a combination of slow release 'Osmocote' granules or 1/2 strength 'Supper Bloom' instant release liquid fert. I also mist the leaves with 'Super Thrive', once every two weeks during the summer.
I recently started using (lime) and (horticultural charcoal) in my soil changes.

Chirstina,
Thanks so much for the list. I'm such a dummy, though! All this time when I get good info off forums or threads, I think I'm going to remember where I saw it. Just thought about the fact that I could copy and paste then save it in My Documents.........duh! Then I can more easily find important info. Barbara

I guess it's the Hawaiian air and soil and your fertilizers! All these huge and variegated leaves are droolers.

I was making cuttings today and found this leaf...13" long...I had to cut it to get the cutting to stay in the pot and I swear I could have used it as a frizbee...or a birdbath...or a bathmat...or a.....

WOW! Did I mention, WOW?

Long Beach, CA

Wow...what is that? Glabra? That's a dandy. OK...what kind of steroids are your plants on anyway?

:0 I thought it was a acorn squash at first glance.. What a beauty, and so darn green. What hoya are the leaves from? If thats a glabra leaf, mine is really lacking something.

Moose Jaw, SK(Zone 3b)

ibid the above. Carol I really think you should send one to PanamonCreel.......I'd love to see him grow one!

Macon, IL(Zone 5b)

OMG, what kind of hoya is that leaf from??? Awesome!

Moose Jaw, SK(Zone 3b)

p.s. he truly would be selling his TV (and computer.......and couch). :S

Keaau, HI(Zone 11)

Hey...that is the same leaf PlumeriaGod posted!!! It is a H. aff. latifolia (NOT IML 88...I have lost the IML #)...and some just grow HUGE. It has to be my all time fave for leaves! I have never seen a bloom....too busy making cuttings. When I retire I will let it grow...yuk yuk yuk and maybe see some blooms. Actually, I am letting one vine grow sans cutting it and hopefully will see flowas!!!

Mt Zion, IL(Zone 5b)

WHOA! Huuuuuge leaves! Makes me wonder how the plant can hold up that much weight! Is it true or are you guys just kidding when you say "The bigger the leaf, the bigger the blooms"? Cuz if it's true - holy cow....Carol....you gonna have yourself a BOUQUETTE when that thing blooms!
.........I bet that is the leaf Adam had stragetically placed. =0)

Huntsville, AL(Zone 7a)

Betsy, I LOL'd when I read your last line! He wouldn't have had to "place" that thing, he could have used it as a cape!!
Carol... I NEED one of those.. seriously!

Winnipeg, MB(Zone 4a)

Wow is totally correct!! I've never ever or will ever never see such a big leave....sniff, sniff. But whoever gets one will definitely have to have a cute UPS guy deliver it....lol.

Huntsville, AL(Zone 7a)

IMPRESSIVE!! Carol, where did you cut it to stay in the pot? Is this where you cut the leaf in half?
Heather

Keaau, HI(Zone 11)

Alas...the node had two leaves, the other almost as big...and I had to cut one off completely and the other (pictured) about 4/5 off. Will send picture of them all rooting wif dey liddel heads cutoff! heh heh.

;>)

Keaau, HI(Zone 11)

Here is the another leaf I cut the same way...must've 'frisbeed'the big one off in the orchard...it is 11 x 6. I often cut them in odd ways so they will fit in the pot better. Way more than enough leaf to be a 'factory'...

Walhalla, SC(Zone 7a)

...and here is the pentaphlebia.
Mine isn't nearly as red and pretty as the one Christina showed. It could be a different clone of it. Also, I have had this one under a shade cloth.

Marcy those are beautiful!!!!

Mesa, AZ(Zone 9a)

Ok Marcy hide your hoyas, we're moving to CA! Those are just awesome, you don't need any of that "hoya dust":-).

Blessings,
Awanda

Chowchilla, CA(Zone 10a)

Glorious, Marcy!!! And, Awanda, I think if you moved to Cali. you should move in next to Marcy so you can share a greenhouse!
Ann

oh, my goodness..they're the most well grown hoyas I've ever seen. You must have some sort of secret..

Long Beach, CA

Thanks all. No secret, no dust....just good ol Calif. fresh air and sunshine (shaded of course) for the summer. That onychoides sat in the house in a window all winter and did absolutly nothing until spring came and I moved it out to the tree.

Oh, by the way...that little bird figure that is in the pot of onychoides is a water/moisture meter. I have several of those that I found at a gift shop near me. You stick their long legs in the soil to a point near the roots, and if it drys out, they start to chirp every so often. They sound just like a real little bird. The only way you know it is not a real bird is that it happens quite regularly if the soil is dry. It also is fixed with a light meter so that they only chirp in the daylight hours so they don't wake you up to water the plant. Ha.
The gift shop had them out of the soil so they were all chirping away every 3 or 4 minutes. It was so cute, I couldn't resist getting a few. I placed them around in various plants and if I hear a chirping, I know that all the plants in that area are due for a water check. Neat, huh? I think I saw them advertised in one of my garden catalogs too.

Gorgeous plants, Marcy.

Hi all,

I had someone D-mail me asking about large leafed hoyas, before their order to David Liddle. Sorry I can't remember who it was off the top of my head. I was searching for info on my aff. latifolia, and came across this thread. I thought I would bump it up to the top.
