I am so new to this, just have a question. I have one brug that is blooming and it is growing nice and tall. It had one limb growing low to the ground and covering some of my other plants. I snapped it off this evening. It is a 2 1/2 foot limb with "Y" and blooms. Should I remove all the leaves and such and just stick it in the ground or what would be the best?
Thanks for any help.

snapping off a limb from my brugs
Beverly,
Hi neighbor. I live near La Grange, but I go to Weimar when I need to see my doctor. Have you had your Brug long enough to see if it overwinters outside? My Brugs are in pots. They have been fine so far. They get late afternoon shade, but today a few had droopy leaves during the hot part of the day. I'm relatively new to Brugs and would love to know the answer to your question also.
Veronica
I root ones that are 7 ft tall! I take off all the buds and big leaves. I just leave a few little ones at the very top. Then I fill a pot with fast draining soil. Try to make the pot a deep one so it will put down a good root system from a good length of trunk. For 5 ft and taller, I use a 5 a gallon pot.
Move it to total shade, I stick the brug in it, press the dirt tight to the trunk. And I leave it alone in the shade for several weeks. I only water when the soil is dry. I may spray mist the top if it looks like it is wilting. I have green tops bend over in wilt only to stand up a few weeks later. Do NOT water if it wilts if the soil is wet. You will rot it.
I am doing a 6 foot sucker of BF right now. I just looked today and saw little leaves standing up tall so I know it is putting down good roots now.
A question...My double white has 3 trunks, all about 4' tall. Could I take one of these to root? My Charles Grimaldi has 2 trunks, but if I take one of them I could have a wonderful standard with a little staking and training and everything is telling me to do it. Is now a good time for this? They are both only starting to bloom, double white with dozens, CG with only 2 (though more buds now that I've moved it to partial shade!)
Yes, spring is the best time. As it gets hotter, it puts more stress on the brug while it is trying to root. I do it though right up till October. Go ahead and cut them!! That is how I get most of my standards. I cut off tall suckers and root them.
kell that is very interesting if get these to grow hope i can try that to.. if don't forget..
Veronica, hello and nice to meet you. I had one brug last year and it was in a pot so I had it inside to protect it. I have several in the ground this year and will see what will happen. I believe they can make it here with our mild winters. I will protect them but I trust they can come back. I have one planted on the east side of my home and it is blooming beautifully. (that is the one I broke a limb from) I have one planted in my back yard that I guess is receiving too much shade - it is growing so well but no blooms so far. I am going to put one in the ground on the west side and see what happens there. It will be a lot of hot hot sun. I hope it can make it.
Kell, thanks for the information, I thought I had read where you plant those that you break off. I hope I can have as much good luck.
