I know this is the tropical forum, but Bleu has been in a few of my pictures. I thought he was just overheated from tramping thru my gardens(but then I realized he didn't feel like going out to the gardens today). We used Advantage flea control, this is the third time he's felt bad and this is the third tube we've used. I think it's the Advantage.
He is one sick puppy, he didn't even want a bite of chicken.
This is his bed in the computer room.
Bleu is having a bad day
Poor baby I know my male pug was under the weather all day yesterday but late in the evening we finally got him to eat his food, then he started perking up.
I would check with the vet before next month when his flea application is due again and see if it could be bothering him.
oh poor baby! He really does look sick.
Oh, Poor Baby Bleu! He looks so pitiful. Give him some gator soup and a big pet on the head from Aunt Mel. I hope Frontline will work better for him.
Let Wally in - that should cheer him up!
He is better, but he has hives now! From head to toe! He came outside with me and wanted to play ball, so he is feeling better.
Mel, we used to use Frontline, does it kill fleas? The vet said not to use Revolution on weimaraners. We have not had a flea problem till now, but last year he didn't get to go to the area by the resaca and that may be where he got them.
Thanks Kin, I think he will be okay now. Of course he had to get sick on a holiday weekend. How is Babs now? Hope she had a full recovery.
So sorry bleu is sick, yes, we use FrontLine plus on both our dogs and it kills fleas, ticks, etc. Never had a problem, but I would talk with the vet first.
They always seem to pick a good time to get sick or injured. LOL
Babs is doing great and she healed nicely. She does have that unsightly square shaved spot that is taking it's time to grow back hair. She is climbing trees and chasing moths so she is all well... I know this might not be funny but your garden has a break from Bleu patrol.. :-)
He looks like he has a hangover.....
We use frontline on the dogs ,cats and.......chickens
OK, it's back to Frontline. It never made him sick. I think he's allergic to Advantage.
CC, he does look like he had one too many doesn't he?
Kin, glad Babs is okay.
Mary, I should ask for Frontline Plus? I can't remember if that's the one we used or not.
I was gunna say he needs the hair of the dog that bit him......
isent that a hangover remedy.....????
ROTF
Poor Bleu. I'm glad he's feeling some better. Do you want me to send you Chocolate to take care of your plants while Bleu is recooping?
Suz, I switched to Frontline a couple years ago. Uggie and Rags are big fans of rolling around in anything nasty in the yard and thus need frequent baths. Also, we take Uggie up to Norris lake and she likes to hang out in the lake with us. The reason we like Frontline is that you can bathe animals, whereas, Advantage has to be re-applied after bathing. We use Frontline Plus and it works great on Fleas.
Hope the Bleu man is feeling better this morning!
You should go out and buy some exotic new plants for him to step on. That will make him feel much better!
He is so much better this morning, he is being a pest as usual! It rained last night and he had to go get his feet muddy in the garden first thing this morning.
I would ask the vet about the frontline plus. That is what I use and has worked well. I just can't remember the explanation for using the FL plus over the regular FL. probably 'cause it protects agaisnst more stuff.
Hmmm. Both our dogs get Advantage with no problema...and it does stand up after baths and rain...at least the stuff we get here. Be careful if you spray Imidocloprid...it is the same stuff.
Louise gets allergic to the pig wallow they run away to...and breaks out in hives too. Vet said to give 25 mg of Benedryl for every 10 lbs (I am sure it was 10lbs)...and it works. I always have to call their office to make sure of the lbs!!! She gets hives from eating PassionFruit too.
Susie I use Front Line Plus too on our little dogs and have never had a problem and use it on my cat too with no problems. Hope Bleu is back to his old self.
I'd still ask the vet. As dogs age things affect them more and even medications are altered for age.
I've used Frontline before on Bleu. I will ask the vet about Frontline Plus. He is much better today, except for the hives, he's back to normal.
I guess Im going to have to bite down and by the Front Line Plus. Ive used the other brands and my chihuahua does the same thing as Blue, within minutes after I put it on him he gets depressed and just lays there, very unlike his usual self, he wont even chase squirrels and if I ask him if he wants to go to Grandma's(his most favorite thing in the world) he just lays there. I have to give him a bath before he starts acting his normal self. The longest I was able to hold out was two days then I said fergit this, Ill just have to bathe him alot.
My neighbor said their dog did the same thing with Advantage and it made sores on him.
I'm going to get Frontline Plus today, the vet said bathe him really good, but I have to wait to use the Frontline. I'll just have to spray with Adam's for fleas. It's very mild, you can use it on new born kittens. So far no fleas, but I didn't let him go out by the resaca. The coyotes and raccoons go down to the water at night and that's probably why there are fleas.
Susie you can give Bleu one regular strength Benadryl(.25 mg or 25mg from WalMart the lowest dose??) for the hives and 1 regular srtength asprin a day for any discomfort. Ask your Vet. Have done it many times over the years. Have had 15 cats(10 at one time) and 5 dogs in my lifetime and do most of the treating myself per Vets instructions. Even had to give injections to one cat for a few weeks. Oh how it hurt me to do it. Always gave them their vaccinations myself. Can't do it to my 2 little doggies now. They are such babies so I go to the vet with them lol
Donna, we used to breed Dobermans, used to dock their tails, stitch them up and take the dew claws. We gave all the injections(we showed rabbits too, I can tattoo a rabbits ear). I hated it though, I felt so sorry for the little fellas!
I'll ask the vet about the benedryl, poor Bleu, he looks like he was shot with birdshot with all the little raised red spots from head to tail.
My daughters BullDog had puppies while I was caring for it and her friend came over and put rubberbands on their tails when they were a day old. I was horrified lol. But in a week or so off fell the little tails. Her parents raise Rottweilers and thats how they dock the tails. That is something I couldn't do.
I've heard of doing it that way. We used a straight edge razor and always put one little stitch in the skin so it would heal nicely. I'm glad we don't do that anymore!
No kidding? I could never do that. I raised Cocker Spaniels for awhile and always took them to the Vet to dock the tails. Even then, I felt cruel and dreaded having to take them.
It was the ears I hated to see done, poor poochies, they looked so pitiful.
What a picture of Bleu. If he didn't look so sick it would be funny. Poor bud, he really looks miserable.
kell, I agree w/ you. seems like it should be the front cover of a get-well card.
All of the furry gardeners at our house are sending best wishes for a speedy recovery to Bleu. If you lived closer, we'd recommend the best vet we know. She belongs to our Mom and makes house calls! Her name is Dr. Pam and she's so gentle and sweet.
Love from,
Bonnie the Black Lab
Rolly the girl kitty (she's the Boss)
Homer the boy kitty
He said that made him feel much better!
He's fine now, his hives are gone, he's back out tramping thru the gardens and being a general pest and following me around. I think he's still a little "off" though, a bunny ran thru the yard going about 90mph and Bleu didn't even see it! The bunny saw the dog though and didn't stop till he was down at the water!
I'm so sorry about this, and I'm so glad that he is feeling better. I've read that sometimes, very rarely, the flea and tick stuff that gets administered to the skin can cause seizures and even be fatal. Sometimes, what works for dogs can be fatal to cats. It is very sad when that happens. Kisses to Bleu.
Happenstance, Cala, see? I told you it would make the PERFECT get well card.
I(the Vet) was giving my dogs the heartworm shots and then they pulled it from the market. Were having to many unexplained deaths I was told by my Vet. Sure glad it didn't happen to my babies.
I'm so glad he didn't die from it! That would break my heart, even if he does step on my plants from time to time(and chew up my lawn furniture, eat my French door, eat my fig tree, chase my cat......hmmm....). I hope he gets out of the "puppy stage" soon.
Vossner, that is a perfect get well card!
I'm so glad that Bleu is feeling better
He is so sweet.
