Moon Garden Suggestions.

Capistrano Beach, CA(Zone 10a)

I am planning on planting a moon garden for my own personal enjoyment on the side of my boyfriend's house in LA Habra, CA. Does anyone have any suggestions for rocky soil/clay soil moongarden plants or easy moongarden container plants? Any spectacularly beautiful/scented/nightblooming plants? Help!

How lovely. Brugmansias are perfect - most fragrant in the evenings. Also there are some very fragrant White bearded Iris for the early spring. They are the most fragrant things in the garden in the spring. Maybe Immortality which is a reliable rebloomer? Mock Orange and white Buddhelia. Roses, and foam flowers. Lilies can span the season if you plan it right. Narcissus. Sweet Peas, hostas.

You are planning on amending, right? Don't add sand. You have to use to much to end up with a good solution. Add organic matter. Maybe dig out the old soil and put new soil in if it's really bad.

Sun, shade, what side of the house? How wide is the planting bed? How much water?

Don't forget variegated foliage.

Here are some sites with fragrant plants.

Here's a link to an HGTV article about Moon Gardens that has some great suggestions:
