Thanks Kyle!
Can't wait, someday I will smell one too :)
Is this really happening??
Very beautiful !! What a blessing to have so much information from such talented folks !!
I have a Kyle's Pink....is this the same Kyle ?? I can't wait for her to bloom.
Happy Gardening :))
No, different person. Kyle's Pink is an Eric Knight hybrid. Named after his son, I believe.
What can I say, Kyle, you are the super-est ever!! Thanks for the seed and for the tip!! I will move two into my frigid barn tomorrow and one into my frigid office and play it by ear from there. If any others have tips or suggestions for growing a brug that typically does not prefer the area being grown, please advise. Thanks!!!
LindaSC, was yours inside or outside, and was it a seedling or a cutting?? What would you have done differently?? I need all the help I can get...
Sherry, it's outside. We've had lots of rain this past week, I don't know if that had anything to do with it. I don't have anywhere frigid, guess I could take it to work where I have a great south facing window. I just really like having them home (kind of like children). I really want this one to bloom.
wow kyle, how impressive is that??? must be your special touch!
these like 70F days less at night...........most kinds of brugs like 70's days 50F nights. Cept suaveolens..they originated in eastern Brazil so they are truly tropical in nature.
No wonder they love my yard!
Linda, yours looks so good. I hope the bloom stays on for you! I have had a few brugs drop long awaited buds, and I get so sad.
My word, it's a wonder I've ever gotten a bloom on any of them or that nurseries would/could sell them in Arky, LA, MS, and some of TN, TX, OK, AL, GA, most of the south. Last year most of mine did bloom in the cooler fall and I suppose the temp was why it worked out that way...
Beautiful Kyle ......... one of my favorites.
Well folks, The last 2 days we have had 90 degree weather and strong hot winds, to boot.
I sit here watching and worrying about my precious Arborea , hanging on to her half opened buds.
I'm starting to think that this year I need to be happy that I can enjoy looking at Kyle's and Rooty's beautious Arborea blossoms. *sigh*
This tree is one seedling out of two that I got from Poppysue last year. The other Arborea tree I gave to Renee last Fall.
wowie! what a beauty. i'm always so happy when blooms are posted here. i hope it happens to me before the year ends.
Did someone say an aborea can be used as a houseplant? I have the seeds, but now i'm wondering if i'll ever see the blooms on them.
It is truely a beauty and it would be such a crime to knowingly give it a death sentence.
Mine bloomed in full dappled shade last summer, heat or not. I'm thinking that a bright East window in the cooler house, should work. I've got some seeds that I might try that on next year.
I'm gonna try one inside and two on a shady deck, then move them if it doesn't work...
" Nothing ventured...nothing gained!"..............just give it a try............ :-)
Wow, Kyle! I hear everyone talk about this one but have never seen it in person or if I did, I didn't know that I was....lol. I like that it seems to point up. I guess this will be another brug that I'll have to try..sheesh.
:) Donna
Exactly, Kyle, thanks! We say the same thing in Goldens, if you aren't in the ring, you cannot win...
Maybe I'll have to bring one into my office where I have a great south facing window. At home I live under huge oaks and hickorys, so no sun in the windows ever.
Well, it is very disappointing when you raise something and put a lot of care into it only to have it die. I grew a Sanguinea from seed, and it did beautifully for a while, and then one day it just up and died. That is why I am hesitant to try a B. arborea. I don't want to grow something that is destined not to do well or to die in my climate. Temperatures are now what Kyle describes as being ideal: 70's during the daytime and mid to low 50's at night, but in the summer time it gets into the high 80's and low 90's here during the daytime and in the high 60's, low 70's at night. Please tell me whether you think I can grow this one.
I think you can grow it. If you don't have lots of hot weather, it probably will bloom off and on for you. Mine did last summer and our temps were into the 90's, but mostly mid to upper eighties. I grew it in the dappled shade so it didn't get as hot as it could have. Maybe if it gets really hot, it could be moved to the inside of the house or even to the north side in more shade and away from the warm south breeze. If you ever smell one, you will love it.

Thanks, Shirley:-)
I'm hoping for 'just one look' and the fragrance!!! Did you have to water yours lots, Brugie?? What about foliar feeding??
I think arborea is easier than a sang
I love the scent and the fuzzy leaves
I can't grow Sangs either. I had 3 and they never bloomed for me.
I've got 3 Arborea seedlings now in the garden and even with the heat we have been having(80's) they are still holding their buds.
Sherry, it got the same care that all the others got for the most part. Seems like I had to skip watering once in a while because it didn't require as much being in the shade. I don't foliar feed. I've never found that it was necessary.
Well, you all convinced me. See the power you have? I am persuaded that I must try one, but I think I'll hold off for just a bit because I really don't have room for another tree! The 'arborea' word scares me. Doesn't that mean "huge humongous very large tree"? LOL!
Clare, just remember one thing"Snip snip snip".......no tree is TOO big when the clippers are handy!!LOL
LOL! Good point:-)
:-)
So now everyone is lusting after Arborea. Isn't that wonderful!!! You have renewed interest in a brug who has been pushed aside.
Thanks for all the information.
Judy
