Great article in this morning's Contra Costa Times about this plant found only on Mt. Diablo which was thought to be extinct. A native that resembles pink baby's breath, it was found by a UC grad student. It is Eriogonum truncatum. It is one of three plants found only on Mt. Diablo, the other two being Mt. Diablo bird's-beak and Mt. Diablo jewel-flower. The full article can be seen on the Contra Costa Times website, but you have to register to be able to read it:

Mt. Diablo Buckwheat - Rediscovered After 70 Years
Good info. I read a similar article a few days ago in the LA Times. Amazing how various things thought to be extinct is showing up. A woodpecker turned up somewhere in Arkansas that no one has seen in 50 years too.
