Neglected, unloved and forgotten

San Leandro, CA(Zone 9b)

but they kept on going! LOL. This is why I say over and over brugs are tough, adaptable and survivers.

I have not been down to visit my 2004 seedlings for quite awhile. I was thinking of just letting them go, but today I decided to get it together and go down. They were very dry but there were tons of dead blooms on the ground. Some had serious shows still going one!!

I have lots and lots of work to do down there, but I do feel much more enthused now.

Here was a EDW X L'A that I thought was so pretty. Maybe with a touch of the right pollen, we may get a double colored for next year!!

Here is a very short and fat bush that must have had 100 blooms on it. Great fragrance.

last year, they were white and so so, this year I loved them. I started calling them Buff Beauty!

I didn't have time to check name tags. I need to go back again in a day or so and get busy down there.

This one only had 1 spent bloom, but I thought it was promising!

This one was so sweet, I hope it gets a bit darker.

The one that had great leaves was still there, I didn't check the tag to see what flower went with them. I have no memory. But the leaves are fantastic.

This one is obviously a GL cross. They are bigger and I bet it is a X pink or orange. So a colored double is but a hop away.............I hope!!

And the last but not least was really, really, really interesting!!! And I did bend down to see the cross but just my luck, it had fallen over on its tag and no way was I going to be able to lift it without cracking it.

At first on one side I saw the cutest fattest little blooms all with their tongues sticking out at me. .

The blooms were a bright, true yellow. Short and chubby with a low calyx. More yellow than the pic shows. I liked a lot.

ANY or all of those unloved and forgottens would be loved and remembered here!!! They are beautiful!!

Then I was on the other side of it. And I saw a brug laying on its side. There were many real fat buds on it. I reached for one to squeeze and it was so fat and so thick. I checked others, the same, very fat!! So I took one off and ripped it open. Was I shocked.

A friend stopped by and I showed her both brugs. And WHOAAAA, we realized both flowers, the bright true yellow and the double tangerine were all from the same brug. It was lying down almost flat to the ground. But part of the end had grown up into another brug in the next row. That is why I thought they were 2 different brugs. Silly me, did not check to see if all the single yellows were on one branch.

This is the true color!! I am now so anxious to see how they all open. There were tons of fat buds.

Wow, Kell, that last one is truly incredible! Not to mention very unique!

Knoxville, TN

Kell, looks like you have some amazing treasures unfolding. Perhaps neglect may be the key to unlocking the seedling mystery!!! Those are WAY too cool!!

Greensburg, IN(Zone 6a)

good heavens, maybe I should just neglect all mine, I have been working so hard to keep them healthy, and I keep losing them, even outside the gnats are terrible, and now the aphids, cold weather and no rain, I had better get some blooms this summer to make this all worth it.

Cedar Key, FL(Zone 9a)

WOW
how many brugs are still over there?
they are gorgeous!!!!

Columbia, SC(Zone 8a)

Looks like you have some real beauties. Please go take photos often. I love the little yellow one, and the double tangerine. Did I correctly understand that they are on the same plant?

San Leandro, CA(Zone 9b)

Yes Linda, is that not bizarre? I must go back and look again. Too odd. LOL

Thanks all. I really have to get revved up. So many brugs and so little time. LOL

Ozark, AL(Zone 8b)

Wow, that last mess has incredible potential! I hope My neglected seedlings will surprise me with something like this!

Medford, NJ(Zone 6b)

That is just too exciting. I was wondering how your garden was growing. I love the fat little orange one. I'm so glad that your getting blooms.

Deltona, FL(Zone 9a)

Kell,, That fat little orange one can come live with me anytime.. Your forgotten brugs are better than my taken care of brugs................. That just about makes me want to give up...But, I will not..

Kell, you may just have some real winners there. Keep us updated.

Buffalo, NY(Zone 6a)

Kell, I feel the same as cinnabor...
The brugs love you no matter what!

Grass Lake, MI(Zone 5a)

How excited you must be ... keep us posted. Can't wait to see what the chubby short yellow one does and the last one.

Ventura, United States(Zone 10b)

Amazing seedlings you've got there, Kell. I'm glad you didn't let them go. They are all super unique-looking. The one with the one spent bloom looks really red, and the double tangerine is going to be awesome. I'm not sure I understand. You have one brug giving you two different blooms: one yellow, short, and stubby and the other a double tangerine? This has to be a record of some sort.

San Leandro, CA(Zone 9b)

I know it sounds bizarre, Clare. I better go back tomorrow and look again. LOL

Ventura, United States(Zone 10b)

LOL, Kell. I think they have to be different trees -- either that or you've just become a very rich woman. LOL! I think some circles would pay big bucks to have a brug tree with two different blooms on it.

San Leandro, CA(Zone 9b)

Well, now that I am home I have to agree. But I tell you, there were 2 of us and we followed the trunk out and it was the same tree. LOL LOL I know I was so confused at first, but maybe I was really confused at last. LOL Or maybe I am just nuts. LOL But cute.

Homestead, FL(Zone 10b)

Kell:
You are incredible and you have done an incredible job with your brugs. Congratulations on all of your beauties.

Tulsa, OK(Zone 6b)

Maybe 2 seedlings were planted in the same hole. They look terrific! Now I don't feel so bad about the seedlings from last year that are still in one gallon pots! Poor babies are desperate to stretch out their roots. It's the very next thing on the to-do list.

Ventura, United States(Zone 10b)

LOL, Kell! Yes, you are very cute:-) Ronna could be right that perhaps you have two seedlings in the same pot?

San Leandro, CA(Zone 9b)

I am going to check it out today. The more time that goes by, the more I think we were seeing things. LOL I am going to a nursery too, to buy a rose that has me nuts I have been dreaming of this rose. LOL I am so beyond normal here. I need help.

Ventura, United States(Zone 10b)

Wow, that is a beautiful rose, Kell. What's it called? Here is a picture of one of mine today.

My car over heated on the freeway, 880. It was SO SCARY!!!! Smoke was coming out of the hood. And my cell phone was dead. I never use it and it is dead the one time i need it. I had to pull on a sliver of a median between the freeway and onramp. I had to walk across the on ramp traffic and walk up the on ramp to another freeway (the 92) above. And back across the overpass, all illegally. And over barriers. It was terrible. And then across another onramp going the other way. Finally a slow truck came by and gave me enough time to run across.

I got to a little shopping center and called my hero, my DH. He came and by time we got back to the car, a tow truck was there. Tom sweet talked him and put antifreeze in my car and off we went. It is still overheating so no nursery hopping today. And no work. LOL. I am now recovering from my ordeal! Thank god I did not crack the engine, I have done that 2 my 2 previous cars. I always forget to tell Tom when the oil light comes on. When they checked the oil this time, it was OK. I was so afraid I had once again screwed up. But I do not think the oil is the problem this time.

Clare that is Brassband, a neighbors. It is an incredible rose. Just incredible. Your red is beautiful too!

Ventura, United States(Zone 10b)

Wow, Kell, what a horrible ordeal. You scared me! I'm so glad that you are all right. I can't tell you how many people get killed trying to cross freeways. My cousin was killed that way. The cars are always moving faster than people think. How horrible. Keep that cell phone charged! Go take a nice leisurely bath and have a glass of wine or something! Hugs,

Kannapolis, NC(Zone 7b)

Wow, Kell. What an ordeal. Glad you're home safe. Maybe that was an omen not to buy that rose. LOL
