I was visiting a friend, and I noticed something that looked like a Lily, but different than anything I had ever seen. The Stems were more like Trunks, and you could tell that it was going to be very tall.
When I asked about it, my friend looked at me with a smile that said "you're going to get hooked on something else", and proceeded to tell me about her Silk Road Orienpet.
Now I need to order some Silk Road and Scheherazade.
Anyone have other favorites or pictures to share?
This picture was taken by my Friend of her Silk Road.
I just discovered "Orienpet" Hybrid Lilies
Oh boy....are you in trouble now!
http://davesgarden.com/forums/t/481331/
Moby ........... why did you give me that link! I don't have time to read the entire thread now, but I'm definately in trouble. Just a quick look already added one to my wish list ............... "Shocking" looks beautiful.
I've always liked Lilies, and have a few clumps, but the the height and aroma of the Orienpet is something I didn't know about.
Do you know if they need some support?
I just ordered 3 of "Silk Road" and 6 of "Scheheradade ................ now where am I going to plant them????????
I told you you'd be in trouble!!
They really don't need support as such, but if they don't get a steady dose of sun all day they do tend to 'lean'. (Not necessarily full sun.) Many of mine are tied to a thin bamboo pole to keep them tidy looking.
Thanks Moby. The bamboo sounds like a good idea.
I was thinking about putting some by the front porch, but it faces West, so doesn't get morning sun. Do you think this location would work?
This is an old picture taken when we first moved, the flower beds have changed, but it gives you an idea. The side of the porch furthest away is where I was considering putting some. That would be the South end.
Be honest with me ............. as I look at this picture, I'm wondering if they would look good there.
I think lilies look great everywhere they grow. I have them on all sides of my house except the north, and that's only because they would get no sun at all.
I still have them on the west side where they bake, but it's just a little harder on the blooms ~ may not last quite as long. These are on the west side, and they're just fine.
They look beautiful.
Love your "fence" in front of them.
lol, thanks. It was a 'dumpster dive special'.
hee hee hee also ho ho ho. Another lily nut arrives on the scene.
Never mind Hooked on Phonics, we are all hooked on lilies.
Silk Road, Northern Sensation, Carillon are all able to grow to 12 ft + under best growing conditions.
Inanda who still has lilies to plant.
Are ya finally starting to thaw up there?
Well Moby,
We've had a few nice warm days, but mostly in the 50's and 60's ............. a very cool May so far.
We're suppose to be in the low 70's this weekend, and most of next week, at least that's what they are saying now, but I don't trust the weather report more than 2 days ahead.
Cool weather is nice for working in the garden, but it doesn't get things growing very fast. Unfortunately, were very dry as well, but it looks like rain will be coming with the warmer tempteratures ............. hope it comes in the evenings.
