Just wondering, how many brug lovers are also into daylilies?

San Jose, CA(Zone 9a)

Daylilies is where I started my flower addictions...now brugs.... & I am slowly moving toward clematis... How many others of you have addictions to daylilies &/or clematis? Just wondering...

I'm addicted to Clematis and Daylilies! Isn't it grand??!!

Tulsa, OK(Zone 7a)

yes and iris's love them ...

Roses! Can't have too many of them! Especially 2 tones and pinks.

Woodsville, NH(Zone 4a)

I started collecting Daylilies a few years ago.
In front of the Daylilies you can see my row of Iris which I also started growing a few years ago.

I have been trying to get into them Margie, but so far it has not taken!! LOL. Sue sent me great seeds and I need to get them going. I do have some planted in my front bed around my roses. I do not think I am going to go nuts on them though, for I have not gone nuts yet getting them. I tend to hog wild as soon as I notice a plant and take a liking to it.

Mpabbott1, I am with you, roses are fantastic. I get a thrill from them all summer long. I need to go see Jeanne, she has both brugs ( her obsession) and over 300 roses (her husband's obsession) plus wild salmon. I may move in with her. LOL

Here is my Red Meidiland today, making my pepto garden red. LOL. This rose stops traffic. She is just huge.

I love daylillies and have a few. They aren't named one's but they're special just the same. I also love roses too, I tried to get a cutting from my moma's rose bush cos' they are so deep beautiful red and some are yellow but it didn't work. That's what I would like to do next is get a collection of roses.

ALL of your flower's posted above are gorgeous, simply stunning!

Got to love those daylilies.....such low maintenance and so many beautiful ones. An extremely generous trader send me a large number of them and that started my addiction. Since then I have purchased more and I usually get the rebloomers and evergreen........I know that leaves out many beautiful ones, but I like color from spring until fall.

Hibiscus are another love of mine......both hardy and tropical because they are another plant that is fairly low maintenance and continuously bloom from spring until winter for me.

Kell is your rose a one time bloomer or does it bloom all summer long like that? It is beautiful in shape and color.

Columbia, SC(Zone 8a)

Kell, it looks like your rose not only stopped traffic but caused an accident. Isn't that a hub-cap I see?

Denver, CO(Zone 5b)

Beautiful pictures!!
I have 4 clematis (Unsure of what they are until they bloom) One for sure is sweet autumn clematis.
And a few daylilies.

Brugnanny,
You are lucky you can grow evergreens.

Up here they are more likely to disappear after a winter or two.

I may as well dig a hole and put $$ in it .... lol

Some Munson evergreens do seem to be tougher tho.

Rebloomers are the best !

Shelly ! !
YIKES ! Very nice list of your collection
.
Notttttttttt me .....not making a list or counting , don't want to know because knowing me it will start another urge for one reason or other.

I too love my Pandoras Box, Eenie Weenie and a pure pink mini that I lost the tag on.

Denver, CO(Zone 5b)

LOL Scoot. I just have the list so I know what I have, so when I lose a tag, I may know what it is!

San Jose, CA(Zone 9a)

wahoo...good to see so many of us are into the same thing...
I have a collection of about 250 daylilies....never did get into roses, although they are beautiful...slightly into iris, but they compete for the same space as the DL'S...clematis now though can grow up...so really doesn't take ANY space to grow her, now does it?! Why didn't I think of this before!?
Margie

San Leandro, CA(Zone 9b)

LOL Linda, that is my DH's hubcap which is connected to his car. LOL. But you can see how big the rose is in comparison.

LOL Margie. What you do is buy tree roses and underlant them with daylilies and then let clematis climb up the tree rose. I am the master of squeezing lots into small spaces.

I am with you Frannie. I prefer the big rebloomers. My problem is I pick them by color but then they bloom and they look nothing like their pictures. I am so sick of being taken!!

Iris have such a short blooming period compared to the space they take, and the rebloomers do not add much bloom time. I have a lot of them but I now notice they are not blooming that much anymore. I think it is because I have heavey feeders all around them and they are getting too much nitrogen and also less sun. I have lush fans and few blooms even though I have separated them as they get crowded.

I am so impressed Shelly, I had no clue you had such a stash. I bet they look just great when they all bloom.

I love daylilies but am not addicted to them like some people I won't mention who will spend $250.00 on just one, lol!

They are easy to care for. :-)

San Jose, CA(Zone 9a)

Well...I don't know who that is Karrie...but I know I have spent 1/2 of that on one!

kell...what a good idea...You are right, rose trees are what I need!!!

San Leandro, CA(Zone 9b)

LOL Margie, see you think like I do! I have now graduated to using tree roses as an underplant to TALLER tree roses. I have a 5 tier air garden going on. Hey, when you do not have the horizontal ground room you must make up for it in using your vertical air room.

Harlem, GA(Zone 8a)

LOLOL I just noticed that in Kells picture, ROFL@Linda

East Texas, United States(Zone 8a)

hey everybody, ALL pix are gorgeous. but I am spechless over kell's tree rose. Now tell me: is the pink rose to the left of the red tree rose, also a tree rose, but smaller?

Kell, how long have you had the red tree rose? what kind is it? questions, questions

Ellicott City, MD(Zone 7a)

As they say, "the sky's the limit"! Let's hear it for vertical gardening!!! That's why growing Clematis is so awesome, besides their gorgeous blooms, lovely seedheads, and some have a delicious fragrance. Some varieties are even evergreen! BTW, Clematis are perfect growing companions with Roses!!!

I definitely impressed with your 250+ Daylily collection, Margie! I'm a fledgling (sp) in comparison! Also, love Irises and need to keep expanding my collection.

Soooo many great plants, bulbs, & vines....all it takes is $$$ and time (which is always in short supply)!!!

Hillsboro, OH(Zone 6a)

Nice thread Margie! You know the answer when it comes to me. LOL I have some of everything. ;) I would definately say I am a daylily nut though! Those I have a FEW of. LOL

I like your saying there Shirley. My great uncle always said "All it takes is hard work in money." Ain't that the truth?!

Judsonia, AR(Zone 7b)

oh dear, I just love daylilies too, I guess if you are asking what we collect ? LOL

daylilies
iris, any kind
mints
scented geraniums
brugmansias
vines, clematis, thunbergias, etc...
not so common herbs, bu tdon't have too many uncommon ones.
I guess those are my loves.

Zion, IL(Zone 5a)

me - both hands flailing in the air wildy!!!
I've had and admired daylilies but not added any named varieties until last year with 6 more this year. My originals were some collection from years ago.

Clematis is a new bug. After my first Jack manii settled in and started creating these huge columns like swinging doors every year I think ordered a collection by some Monk to grow on a fence intended for grapes. I figured they could fill in until the grapes got going. NOOOOO! They've become too happy back there and the fence is covered. In fact last year, the clems were so thick I didn't get any grapes. There's 3 or 4 more varieties around the original windmill and another 3 or 4 types I put at the base of the street tree after seeing the others getting their groove on. This spring I added another windmill out back for 3 new ones and have 4 set in the yard with stakes pulled to a point for now.

I've started collecting more and more echinacea and sedum. There's many more than the all too familiar Purple Magnus and Autumn Joy. They provide multi season interest and butterflys love them as well.

If you want a cool vine, find Lonicera periclymemum variegate “Harlequin Variegated”. It's a honeysuckle but with some of the prettiest variegation you'll find along with sweet scented flowers and a zone3 hardiness.

Wildwood, FL(Zone 9a)

Yep me too. Daylilies probably have around 25 kinds and roses about 25 also all own root old garden roses. Collect gingers too.

Niceville, FL(Zone 8b)

I grow it all. Everything I can get my hands on. I have about 20 brugs and who knows how many daylilies.

Thumbnail by rylaff
Judsonia, AR(Zone 7b)

oh yeah, how could I forget the echinacea, I have about 7 diff ones now. them new ones you know, doppledanger, mango, sparkler, I can't remember the rest, this is number 2 years for them, their still so tiny, and have not multiplied at all, kind of wonder what their seedlings will look like

Jacksonville, FL(Zone 9a)

Margie, I love daylilies. Pandora is one of my favorites also.

San Leandro, CA(Zone 9b)

Oh Rylaff, I want that daylily!! What is her name??

Vossner, she is a short tree rose. I am trying to remember how tall her trunk is. Maybe 2 ft. I got her years ago at HD, an unnamed grower. They have them every year and they usually die on me. I like the short tree roses for they take less room, just by being lifted up 2 ft off the ground. That one is Chicago Peace, my favorite rose of all time. I get so many blooms on her. Her colors change every year and sometimes every flush. If I only could have1 rose , I would pick her in a second.

I have 24 inch, 36 inch, 48 inch and 60 inch tree roses. You can plant them much closer together if you vary their height. LOL.

I do not know how long the red rose has been in the ground. I planted them both years ago. The other one, Red Meidiland, is on a 48 inch trunk.

Chicago Peace. To die for.

Rylaff your Daylily is gorgeous!

Spokane, WA(Zone 5b)

No kidding! I have one that is "similar" to that, but not quite as ruffly.

Niceville, FL(Zone 8b)

jThat daylily is Elizabeth Ann Hudson. She is an evergreen.
Chicago peace rose is one of my favorites. Mine has not bloomed yet this year.

Lakeland, FL

Well, let's see. Brugs, daturas, roses, lilys, cactus, succulents, All flowers perrenial, got awesome morning glorys, Bird of paradise, elephant ears, calladiums and the beat goes on. In my spare time I work. ha ha

San Jose, CA(Zone 9a)

I am SO glad I asked !!! Do I see an aweful lot of enthusiasm out there??? Love that peace rose and your DL rylaff...

Something funny...I said to my daughter...who saw me go from a non-gardener to a DL addict almost over-night, "I bought a book about Clematis today" "I really like them"....her response was "OH NO"!!! I think she knows me, knows me well.... so, so...I did buy one last week and order 3 on line this week, but that doesn't mean I have hundreds or anything....(yet)

Enjoy your loves! It sure adds sparkle to our days and a light to our eyes and gladness to our hearts, doesn't it ? I know it does to mine!

Margie

Ozark, AL(Zone 8b)

Lol!!! Clearly most of us are flower crazy! My 'Addictions" started with Iris, and while never kept track of names until brugs, I've got about 20 different colors and 100 plants that don't do as well here as they did in CA; here I started on roses, and had 70 bushes at last count; then named daylily plants, about 50 kinds, most of whom have lost tags, then brugs, about 200 scattered on 3 acres, with another 100 or so to place, and since I built the GH, Tropical hibiscus, about 10 kinds, and recently, finding that clematis does well here, I'm collecting them too! Amaryills and criniums as well as asian lillies are also a part time passion! Will we never be satisfied??

I don't know the name of this daylily, which may or may not have a readable tag by it, but I loved the soft colors.

Thumbnail by lagata2
San Jose, CA(Zone 9a)

lagata..it is lovely!

Well, for me it was a total surprise to find that I loved anything as much as my beloved daylily...it was like when you have your first child and cannot ever imagine loving another...and then it happens and then you find out you have enough love for not just one, or two but many!

And like children...they bring some saddness, some loss, some pain...but so, so much pleasure and happiness...it makes all the work worthwhile...

Am I getting sentimental or what?!

kell, thanks. that is beautiful I have a Queen elizabeth that is 24" tall in a pot this year (from walmart) that I would like to plant inground next Feb. I think I'm going to buy a short tree next year and plant right next to it, for the same effect you have.

likes (but getting close to obsessions): DLs, brugs, roses, tropicals, hostas, flowering vines, plumies, AVs, trees in general, coleus, dahlias, amaryllis, hibiscus, and whatever plants will love me (as I will love them back). Unrequited love has gotten too expensive for me LOL
