Filter paper much better.

Got all the proteacae in their place and in the fridge. The Mr. Coffee type filter paper with the permanent marking pen done first works great. I am definitely going to switch over everything else and go that way from now on. My only concern is the lack of light for the seeds. May have to do the baggie thing but that may send DW around the bend, she is concerned about the number of containers in the fridge and said no more. But I only put them in at night, I thought, while slinking away. So I guess it is time for my own fridge. Alstroemeria are next, they are soak, warm, cold, warm and definite candidates for filter paper.

Filter paper method is working well. Already moved quite a few over and that was pretty easy. But the challenge will come with the smaller seeds.

Spring actually cooperated, and after three months (warm, cold, warm, cold, freeze, warm) I got good germination rates from my Alstromeria. I just heard it isn't hardy up here, and won't bloom until next year, so I guess it is pots and under the lights for them next winter! I hope the show is worth it :-P

The alstroemeria are next for me. Warm, fridge, warm. Warm can get pretty warm for the proteacae so I have reversed and put them in the fridge during the day and under the lights at night. Alstroes will go lights, then fridge then lights. Hopefully they will germinate along the way. At least the filter paper doesn't tie up a bunch of trays for long germinators and they are much easier to manage from a constant moisture standpoint.
