Spirea Mutating??

I have an unnamed Spirea that my MIL gave me. It is one of the summer-blooming pinkish-red kind.
Last yeat some of the leaves started variegating with yellow and this year there is a pretty large section with solid yellow foliage.
MIL plant has never done that, to our knowledge. It is about 30 yrs old. Mine has been set out about 4 years from cuttings she gave me.

Anyone ever had a spirea do this? Will the whole plant eventually turn yellow?

Could be a simple matter of changing light. Several varieties turn a golden yellow in full sun.
Gold Mound / Gold Flame to name a couple.
Here is a pic of two of mine. One in a good deal of shade, and one in full sun. You can see the sahdey one is greener.
