This peony was left over from a plantswap held at my house 7/2003. I left immediately for a DS funeral. This peony spent the summer in a pot but when I dumped it in the fall it had nodes so I stomped it in the middle of the garlic bed. Second year and it's blooming. I don't know the name but she's turning out to be a pretty pink with white. That's Pat Austin in back, in a container shoved up against the red and purple raspberries
Begging for Brugs.....
Out the back door (neighbor's yard in the background)
My first Calla lily is about to bloom in a pot on the right with the speckled leaves.
The fern is a success. They've failed on me in 3 other places. Last summer one of the garden club ladies brought me another piece. I pottted it and had it in the garage most of the summer. Then last fall stomped it in back here which is the north side. SUCCESS. Except now it'll probably get happy and I'll be ripping them out forever.
The blue pot on the left is La'Mour (sp). She was one that was never really happy in house once I brought it from ReneeO's basement in Feb and put it in this pot. Since getting outside she's leafed out and is enjoying herself. Buds are coming.
Growing up in the south I've always liked succulents and cactus. This winter I heard High Country Gardens (article in Chicago newspaper) had Agave that were hardy here. What!!! Didn't know what I was going to do with them but I got them. Finally potted them up for the time being and round out this corner of the sidewalk leading to the front door.
Ooooooooooooooooo!!! Eeeeewwwwww!!! Oh Blaine, I am so sorry...I can't even comment on the beautiful pics for laughing at your toe story! LOLOLOL
Geez....I know that hurt so bad! Sorry again...but I still can't stop laughing!
OMG I'm afraid to post here now that you have a Bad Bunnie story but I still think your yard is georgous, do you do anything else but work in it. How do you keep it so neat, mine is a jungle, overgrown and a bloomin mess. I got some stuff they said was a tad envasive and can handle drought, I said, oh I can handle a tad evasive and look what it did, I am trying to find my air conditioner. I'm afraid what it would do if I watered it.....but it blooms and is kinda pretty. I'm looking for a garden mentor......and you garden is so pretty.
Here's what I am thinking....Spray Brush Killer, Spray Brush Killer, what do you think ?
PS....hope your toe is better
Your pictures are so crisp Blaine. Have I asked you yet what camera you use?
I wish my yard looked like yours. So neat and orderly and green and lush and healthy.
Poor little rabbit. LOL
Hey Buns, what is that plant that is growing all over the ground? It sure is blooming nice. Wish your picture were closer so we could see the flowers on it. Is that what you said was so invasive? What is it?
Jeanette
For some reason I want to say some kind of vinca vine but that's wrong. The flowers look awfully close to some prize dandelion specimens, which ARE pretty. :) Yeah, if it's time to control, I'd slam a couple cans of courage and scalp it with the weed whacker. Then when new growth started I'd be going at it with your favorite herbacide.
Buns I still figure I do more looking around at things. There's always a ton of stuff I could or should be doing. From weeds to grass to deadheading to putting things away.... I just keep picking at it a little at a time. I get more accomplished if I go out with a definite plan. Most days I step out, shift into the gardening shoes with a semi-plan of attack and then get paralyzed for want of better words. I'd rather grab another cold one, light up and wander around gawking. (I tell myself this is a 'Planning' stage)
Kell - Thanks but I've gotten lazy and use that Sony 3.2mp I got for Father's day last year all the time. I'd have fewer fuzzy pics if I'd use the tripod all the time, but don't. I still like my slr's better. In fact I've got film in both of my Milolta X700's that I need to finish and get developed this weekend.
ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ahooooooh eeeeeoweee------sorry, we had to clean the coffee off the screen and clean ourselves up------what a beautiful toe you have----did the "bunny" laugh itself to death or did you notice????
Yo Mama wants to know if you remember how "big" those agave's realllllly get?????????
I can see you in the garage, foot propped and a cold "Bud"---planning:):):)
Anyway, the yard is Better Homes and Garden perfect.
DA and DM
Buns, there is only one answer - you are going to have to pack up and move...
Speaking of Better Homes and Garden, I was at a local nursery and two women, grandmothers, almost got into a fight about Angel Trumpets. The nursery had daturas marked Purple Angle Trumpet. The customer said, I didn't know there were purple Angle Trumpets, the employee, said yes, there are I have one growing in my hard. Other lady, said, I really think it must be a datura. The employee said, well, Better Homes and Garden says it is a purple Angle Trumpet. I didn't open my mouth until the employee huffed off and I told the customer that she was correct. Anyone know if BH&G 'says' that??
yaaa, yaaa Milehighgin... execution was disposed of this morning. (he just thought he was slick)
Than I gave the silicon neighbor a tub of watersoluble fert and 2 brugs and said if she didn't water/feed every day I didn't want to hear about not having exotic fragrance around her pool!!!
Boy Buns, that looks light a toughy. Like one I don't know if I would tackle. Too bad. The leaves are very pretty. Nicer than the blossoms really.
Jeanette
Blaine don't know why I didn't see this thread sooner, maybe when my computer was acting so crazy, still does sometimes. Your yard is picture perfect. The brugs are great. and eveything looks so neat and clean. My yard will never be neat and clean, I just try to keep the weeds from hiding the flowers. My Campanula Sarasto just bloomed for first time. I love the black-purple buds. Holds up pretty good for flower arranging. I used a few stems this morning. Does mine look to be the same color as yours. DonnaS
Great looking yard, Blaine. Better quit trying to kick the bunnies. Looks like you lost that game. LOL
DonnaS - yep that's the same one. This is the first time mine has bloomed too. I put them and this yellow leafed in last spring and they just grew a bit and hung around. Only one yellow one came back but by fall I noticed this Sarastro was already wanting to run a bit. They don't like to be even a little bit dry! They were lush and created the tall mounds this spring then last week when they were getting ready to bloom they were wilted and starting to flop. I realized that bed wasn't near as wet as I thought it was.
