spring rain is finally rolling through and I'm hiding in the HoopHouse or potting up some youngsters between storms.
With any luck I'll be able to show this same angle this summer with some semblance of big blooming brugs (almost) like I've had the pleasure of seeing from the established growers here.
While waiting out a storm in the HH and staring at things I realized I had buds on 3 different brugs besides the Tropical Sunset that is opening tonight.
This is going to be a very cool summer. Thanks to all for the pics and words of encouragement.
Begging for Brugs.....
WOW, in my next life I want to be orderly and neat. Your yard looks so great.
Kell, you wanna see my compost corner? ;)
ty
Your yard is a dream Blaine, so pretty and organized - all your plants look like they love where they live!!!
Is that your secret to such green, fat plants??? Forget seeing it, I need some of it.
I love that. I could see that in southern living...
ely
8ftbed, I absolutely love your yard! Great job!
Wow, Your yard is beautiful and your Brugs look so healthy. How many do you have? I look forward to pictures with your brugs in the yard. :)Donna W
....but where are you? In your pareau?
What an idyllic yard. I want it!
it's not real is it???
Just beautiful Blaine.
Thanks all ... fresh rain always helps. :)
Donna - just did a quick coffee tour and there's 27 that I guess will bloom this year including a couple of first seeds I got to sprout from Brugie in Jan which are very robust. Brugs are almost invasive I think, considering I just learned how to spell brug in late November. :)
Then there's the last 8 seeds I got to sprout (almost perfect germ) from Brugaddict. I just repotted last night and they're sassy little tykes. unk Pale Pink x Adora.
This is the 8P-crew just before repotting.
Not to worry Carol ... it's almost Hawaiian style weather!!

WOW, your yard is absolutely beautiful down to the lovely green lawn!!!! I am impressed! I would not even have a lawn if it not for the weeds!!!
Mel
Yes Yes Yes..... your yard is awesome.....
Your yard shows you love it,sooo nice. I lived in Zion till I married in 55 and moved to Al. I am just getting started with burgs. Haven't had much luck., but have one (Equador pink) that looks promising. Have a great summer and watch the waves on lake Michigan for me.
your yard, and garden is lovely.
meltin, I am like you, if I killed off all the weeds there would be no lawn, can never get rid of crab grass.l
Your yard is lovely! It also very NEAT and green. I know I have to be warmer then you and we are just now greening up. GRRRRRR Now I have zone envy of someone in IL.... Lifes not fair *kidding* You've done a great job.
Beautiful yard and garden!
Great garden Blaine, I can see several spots for brugs. Your P&C looks great. How do you keep them bug free? Mine get eaten so bad.
TY all! What's left of the grass is finally starting to grow. I inadvertently scalped it into near oblivion with a dethaching spring attatched to the mower set to low. We've got that stupid quack grass or whatever it is that runs into the beds. The front portion is now about set except for tender plants and BRUGS in a couple of weeks. Still so much to do on the sides and outback. What's cool is the couple of weeks of early summer weather we had the first part of April. It's put things ahead of schedule with scapes rising from some daylilies, columbines and iris getting ready to bloom. Hopefully some roses will show early too for the DD's highschool graduation the end of May.
Linda it's still early up here so the bugs aren't out in full force, plus we don't have the critters you do down south. However I did discover mites on a brug in the back of the HH yesterday!! Oh yeah, that's the other thing. None of the brugs have been outside before today other than being in the HH. While waiting out a storm yesterday in the HH, sipping suds, I noticed a couple of lady bugs had moved in and were methodically cruising the brug leafs. The whiteflys are now in decline and lady bugs have found an early snack!
Oh my, I will be too embarressed to show you all pics of my garden after seeing those. Gorgeous! Bucki
Blaine, I'm VERY picky and I cannot see a thing I'd change in your garden!!! I always 'shout' zone 5a when I see lovely brugs but zone 5a does not plant and tend, so I credit you with a wonderfully green thumb. When the magic zone is added to the magic touch, a magical garden results and your photo proves that - many congrats on a job well done!!!! Your baby seedlings are precious...
WOW is all I can say!!!! BEAUTIFUL !!!
Your gardens are beautiful and so neat.
Your picture on the top is just picture perfect, which my gardens were so neat and clean looking, wow! super great
Gracias, gracias.
Suppose I should add a couple pics of beds still in the throws of spring maintenance or waiting for brugs and tomatoes or wondering if I'll make up my mind what mulch they get this year. /gggg/
My philosophy, Kareoke...is 'if its green mow it'!
Blaine...certainly IS gorgeous.
Beautiful .... everything is sooooooooo green. That is what it looks like right now????
Yeah, that's it. Everything is just getting going good so it actually looks like there's some plants. Nectarines, peaches, bing cherries and pears are about done blooming and now the apples and the amur cherry are taking their turn. Looks like the clematis are going to put on an early show since I've seen buds by the garage, on the windmill and around the street tree as well. I haven't gotten back and looked real close at the ones on the grape fence but since I didn't get around to cutting them all back, that should be a huge bloomin' mess and the grapes don't stand a chance at sun this year. Oh well, between the brugs and nicotiana I'll be so intoxicated with the fragrance nothing is going to matter. (unless of course I have a low-beer alert!!)
You have a lovely garden, Blaine. I'm so impressed with all of the things that you grow. You must stop traffic out front!
Thanks Clare. Actually I'm at the end of a court but I'm surprised at the drivebys. Loop around the end then cruise by real slow. Last year about the end of May I kept noticing this little old Asian man I'd never seen before walking by the house several times a day but didn't speak. I eventually found out he was the visiting father of my neighbor behind me here from the Philippines for the grand daughter's graduation. Besides trying to eyeball the yard, he was just cruising to smell the roses I've moved out along the curb. They were supposed to be Autumn Damask but they only bloom in the spring but light up with pink flowers and fill the air with old rose romance. Since they only bloom once and want to get rangy I moved them out by the street to try and convince other bad neighbor kids they should control their balls. Reaching into this pink beauty makes wrestling with a blackberry bush a walk in the park!! (I like to fell out of my garage chair the one time I actually saw one kid reach in for an errant ball. GOTCHA!!!!)
LOL! I love it. My neighbor's kids can't control their balls either. That's a nice story about the man from the Philippines. I'm sure it gives you great satisfaction when people admire your garden as they go by. I like it too as long as they don't try to take cuttings!
Your garden is so green and lush - not to mention neat. It's just beautiful.
Sorry to hear the terribly sad news from your town though. How sad.
Yes it is very sad and disturbing. Evil is everywhere and I'm glad my kids are just about grown and gone. Even then, we never let them ride around neighborhoods and parks like that.
