Well, my redbud (Cercis canadensis) has yet to bloom or leaf out. I scratched the bark a bit as one of you suggested, and it looks green and healthy. Is anyone else having a slow redbud season?
The trees in town seem to be blooming, but everything in town is always a week or two earlier than out where I am.
Should I be worried?
Nick
More Redbud questions.. :P
What are your temps?
K
we have been in the 50s, 60s, 70s over the last few weeks. We did have a hard freezea week or so ago, otherwise 40s and high 30s at night.
It may still be too cool. I would give it some time. You may also choose to dump a bucket-full of Miracle Grow water on it now so it can pull on that "juice" as it wakes up. I have had very good luck fertilizing Dogwoods, Redbuds and other spring bloomers by this method.
Thanks a ton Kachina. I just planted it this year.. a month or so ago... I will be patient :-P
I used a balanced fertilizer when I planted it, but it might benefit from a few extra waterings a week. It has been kinda dry this spring.
Thanks,
Nick
