Spacemaster Cucumber - do the saved seed grow true?

Dry Ridge, KY(Zone 6a)

Do plants grown from seed saved from the Cucumber variety "Spacemaster" keep the compact shape, taste etc? I've not seen these listed as hybrids anywhere and was wondering if anyone has any experience with saving seed from this one.

Victory Seeds list them as an open pollinated variety (that's all they sell) so seeds will grow back true.

Do you know how to properly save cuke seeds?

Let the cukes get way overripe and turn orange/yellow. The skin will toughen up and they will look more like a squash than a cuke.

Scrape out the seed goo into a cup and let stand outside for about 5 days. It will get moldy ,attract fruit flies and stink (be prepared for this)

After a mat of mold has formed on top and it has fermented for 5 days, scrape off the top layer of mold and rinse the remaining seeds in a strainer or bucket till all of the gunk is gone. Then dry as you would any other seed.

Cukes have a germination inhibitor in the gel that surrounds the seeds to keep them from sprouting inside the cuke. By fermenting this off, you get a much higher percentage of viable seeds.

It is also very important to use extremely over-ripe cukes...more mature seeds inside.

hope this helps.

Thanks for the info. Sounds like the same thing I do to save tomato seeds.
