i am curious as to everyone's favorite, their holy grail, the one brug they would want to have if they could have no other.
i am just getting into this, and i am amazed at how many breathtaking species they have, i would love to see what every one's favorite is.
mine is B.sanguinea i know its a common one, but every picture i see just takes my breath away. i've never seen one in person, and i've tried to germinate the seeds to no avail. its just one plant that "speaks" to me, you know?
i'm interested in seeing everyones responses, so c'mon, humor a newbie!
niki
what's your dream Brug?
That's a great picture. Where did you find it? Whoever grew that one, knew what they were doing.
i want to say plants of perfection, i could be wrong. doesn't it just glow?
Sure does. Very pretty. Wish I could grow them.
your climate prohibits you from growing them?
I've had one grow to good size but it never bloomed. Even north of me, it is still hard to get bloom because our summer day temps are in the 90's or higher.
:( that's sad but our temperatures are the same and Brugs bloom like crazy 'round here. is it a humidity thing? what's your dream brug?
I am too new to brugs to say which is my favorite, but I think if I had that brug in the picture, it would be my favorite. Absolutely stunning....
Cindy
i know i can't wait to grow one.
I'll try growing a couple in a cooled GH this year, but don't hold out huge amounts of hope for them.
I don't have a holy species in mind; but base my desires more on color and size. I love variegates, and besides wanting more colorful flowers, such as dark pinks and bright yellows on variegates, I would also Love to see a variegate with pink incorporated into the leaves, as I've seen on other variegated plants.
Two toned brugs, or edged petals make my heart race too. Last year I had a huge white bloom with nearly red edges that was really striking, and such a shame when the the next bloom came in peach ! :(
I did keep it over the winter since it only had a couple of flowers last fall, in the hope that this year it may decide to go back to this original coloring!
That's cool looking. It would be a nice surprise to have it bloom that way all the time.
Niki, you might want to pick another favorite. Sangs are beautiful, but DON'T like heat and humidity at all. When Brugie said that she can't grow them, that's what she meant. She has loads of brugs, in fact, the first american grown double pink bloomed in her yard last summer!
My dream? A double pink, Axelrose (a cool variegated one), several dark pinks - (ForeverMorr, Kell's Red, Mountain Magic, Rothkirch), Lexy (a double yellow), a small double flower - (Gemini, Forestville Double, Bambina). They're like potato chips, you can't have just one, even when you're only wshing!
I need a double pink or 2 or 3, Shirleys Punkin, Kell's Red, and Vixen
oh well. you just burst my bubble. :(
has anyone ever seen 'cinderella'? i'm sure you have lol but i think that one is breathtaking.
ok, so ......what really cool varieties love heat and humidity?
Monster Brug, Golfito, Frosty Pink, Tatiana, Hawaiian Dbl White(in a pot), Dr Suess etc. the list goes on and on. I have grown about 100 varieties with no problems except for Aborea and Sangs.
figures the one i want i can't grow. i just recieved a dr.suess from lilcajunlady, i can't wait till it blooms.
Ditto on DonnaBs' want list!
i've been looking up everyone's wants and i have to say, Axel Rose is winning in my department with Vixen right underneath it. I wish these plants were easily obtained!
.Oh, I lust for Monika's Mobisu !
scootrbug, that must be a very rare one. i don't even see ti on the web. what does it look like?
ok...i found monika and mobisu so i am assuming you are lusting after a hybrid of the two. that would be breathtaking. does on actually exist or are you wishful thinking?
LOLLOLL ........ Monika has the brug named Mobisu
http://davesgarden.com/forums/t/441423/
But she does have a brug named after her too
It's a beaut and was a seed cross by Monika .
Brugie was the seedling parent.

I would have to say a double pink and a double yellow.
I have a couple of brugs and I absolutely love them. My sister, who is not a gardener, saw my photos of them, and absolutely fell in love. She recently moved to Las Vegas and was told that she won't be able to grow any there. I asked a grower here in Florida what they thought, and they said she would probably need to keep them in a container and give them LOTS of water, and she should be able to grow them.
Is there anyone here from Las Vegas who grows them or does anyone have any advice for growing them in Las Vegas?
Thanks for any and all replies.
Mountain Magic !!!
I mostly lurk here.
I have about ~50 brugs brugs, I was fortunate enough to get a mobisu from a woman, who got it from Monika. The woman who sold it to me, also had one, and hers has since died.
Mine, I was noticing yesterday while doing one of my numerous brug walks per day, noticed that mobisu not only had Y'd, but had Y'd into 3, and there was a bud. I've attached a picture.
Please, don't ask me for a cutting. I'm in Canada, and can't send over the border, and it's not big enough to get cuttings yet.
Linda in Victoria BC
Doluble ditto on Donna's list and add her Tatiana and any of Monika's.
Linda, The triple Y's on your Mobisu are typical if her sanguinea heritage. You could even get more.
Dang, I would be so excited I wouldn't know what to do.
My hearts desire would have to be a double pink. When they're more available I'll just have to get one and make it a centerpoint of my garden. Meanwhile I'll worship from afar. :-)
Linda, How exciting!!! Beautiful healthy looking Brug. I have a friend who lives in Victoria. I don't think he knows much about Brugs. He is a beekeeper and has quite a garden too. He visits me occasionally and I'll show him my Brugs when they are big and blooming. I hope, I hope. :)Donna W
Each time I see a new brug, it becomes my favorite. OK OK I have it bad.
Buns
It is a great one, most of us have given up on it,due to it's lack of blooms.I think there have only been 4 or 5 to get this one to bloom in US.and only one or two blooms.
I saw a photo of Herrenhauser Garten and fell in love. I received a rooted cutting two weeks ago. I'm going to keep my fingers crossed that I get at least one bloom.
I have a Herrenhauser Garten. I can't wait to see my blooms. I have heard they take a long time. Did yours?
hmmm, I know I posted earlier after Root.
Anyway, the HG is the first pic I saw that really got my attention. As luck would have it, it was one of the cuttings that ReneeO gave me in January. I haven't heard good reviews about PC either but she's started budding up in the hoophouse and the HG is right beside, so maybe it'll get a hint.
I love my Maya. I got it last year and it just got it's first flower last month and now has 3 more buds. Smells heavenly.
Jan...
has anyone grown cypress gardens? i'm not overly impressed with white flowers (just a preference thing...except for 'species') but CG looks like it would be really cool in person. i wonder if it blooms and does well.
8ft....if peaches and cream is not supposed to do well...yours didn't get the memo :)
what's that about a memo and peaches & cream? I have a variegated brug that could either be a maya or a PC and will be determined later. So I'd like to have the memo.
