Antrim, Northern Ire, United Kingdom(Zone 8b)

I have just received an email from the World Wildlife Fund asking me to supply images of bats for their new series of stamps.

for those who dont know I'm a bat man!! at this time of year I give advise to people about bats which have taken up residence in and around their home. I also give talks and lead groups looking for bats.

interested in bats? I have a web site about them which is just about finished. http://www.batdetective.com

Congrats Mark! Thanks for the website link - your site looks great. A long time ago, I did some volunteer work with Bat Conservation International handing out information and showing slide shows at one of the state parks around here. Once you learn about bats, it's really hard not to love the critters. We have a big colony that spends summer here under the Congress Avenue Bridge.

Congrats mark, that site is so cool, looks brilliant, when will you be updating the site and will it just deal with bats in northern ireland or other parts of the uk. I remember there was this field that me and my friends used to play football on in the grounds of an old building, and when we used to sit afterwards and have a drink and relax afterwards just as dusk was falling loads of bats used to fly out, sometimes even divebombing our heads as they passed! Really beautiful to watch!

thanks everyone. I'll do my best to sort out stamps. maybe they'll give me a free sheet of them.

Amari, I was in Austin this time last year just to see the bats. just unbelievable how there are so many people come to watch the nightly emergence. I also went to Bracken Cave home to 20 million bats. that has to be the highlight to my batting career. I went to the Lady Bird Johnson wildflower centre. here's the shots I took http://albums.photopoint.com/j/AlbumIndex?u=1389828&a=10396333&f=0

Lilith, all the bats on my site are found in the our island group. in time I will include species that we dont have on this side.

Mark,
That is great!
We live near Chautauqua Institution on the shores of Chautauqua Lake, where the bats have become famous mosquito eaters and rather treasured. They have bat walks and talks and a "bat man" who goes around and gets them out of the attics of the Victorian cottages (and occadionally bathrooms and bedrooms and kitchens!).
Here on the farm, we have several that must winter over in the hay mow and spend the summer doing swoops and dives in the yard. they are, of course, just little brown bats. Sometimes late in the summer when the evenigs become chill, they spend their time in the barn eating the flies that follow the cows and in the morning when we go in to do chores, they come very close to check us out.
I'll be looking forward to seeing your stamps!

WAY TO GO MARK!!! We are so happy for you. I have seen your pictures of bats while they are not my favorite creature...the pictures and the information are great. I am trying to make my way all over DG and get to know everyone, it's nice to meet you. Let me know when the stamps comes out and I will add some of them to my stamp collection.
