Wow S Sister, I that was a quick trip to CA. Glad they made it. I thought it might take longer to get there. I was a little worried about you and Ingrid. It is great that they are all making it OK. I hope all the babies enjoy their new home.

Robin,
Today was Christmas for me!
I received your envelope with the antique lilies today along with other things I had traded for and SASE. What a good feeling to come home from work and find these goodies!
Just for your information. They were a little dry and unhappy, but I soaked them in water right away and then put them in good moist soil in a pot. They will do just fine.
Thanks so much for sharing!
Thanks, again

Mine arrived today in great shape....even after sitting in the mailbox all day. My son brought them in about 930 and they still looked great.
Thanks for sending the, i'm looking forward to growing them and seeing them bloom!

Monroe, NC(Zone 7b)

Thanks for letting me know how they arrived. This was my first effort at plant shipping. I was actually more worried that they would be too wet wrapped in the moist paper and plastic bubble wrap than too dry. I thought they might arrive slimy. Glad to know that didn't happen. Also glad that none were smushed. Next time I'll add a little more water.

Tillamook, OR(Zone 8b)

Winchester, KY(Zone 6a)

Thripmaster thank you so much! I was so confused-thought I've finally done it and forgot to send out a trade(in the spring frenzy of planting I'm fully expecting to loose my mind!). Such a pleasant suprise and so sweet and generous of you. I'll get postage out to you tomorrow. Thanks again, Neal.

Monroe, NC(Zone 7b)

You are welcome Neal. I hope one of you guys that got this lily can actually identify it. I'll send pictures in the next few weeks when the mom blooms.

Monroe, NC(Zone 7b)

yes. Other trade is confirmed. Will be a few weeks though until I dig. Don't let the baby lily freeze.

Monroe, NC(Zone 7b)

Hmmm. Well...the mom of the babies is in full bloom. Not a trumpet lily! Sorry for the miss-ID. Not sure why my memory told me this guys was pink/////??? Wow, kids for sure kill brain cells.

These still look pretty tho. Like a Tiger lily which I like.
The ones you sent me have died except for one of them is still struggling. I do not know what I have done wrong. They were growing for awhile but then...I put them in nice pots but... Never have lost plants before but just wanted you to know.
But do like your pic.

Concord, NH(Zone 5a)

Was looking at your trade list and saw garden phlox with date of 1920. are they tall? Just curious. Nice that you have those old heirlooms

Monroe, NC(Zone 7b)

Yes. They are tall and purple. Pretty tough too. Often the old garden phlox get powdery mildew. This one gets it late in the season...but seems to tolerate it pretty well and it is pretty minor. Want to trade for some? I have a few babies around the big clump. Hopefully they will grow a little better for you than the lily babies did for most people. I replanted a few of the lily babies also at my cousin's house. They are gone now. I wonder if maybe the bulb will send up shoots next spring.

Lulu...send me an e mail in about a month. I can share the old lily with you....but let it finish blooming and die back first. There is no telling what this old lily is..probably a spider. It grows about 10 feet tall and blooms like crazy every spring. Then it has babies all over the place.

Here is a photo of the old purple garden phlox. I love this plant. It is one of my favorites in my garden. Simple but lovely. This is the first bloom of the season. It just appeared this week.

Another phlox picture. Since it is one of my favorites...I was compelled to post two pictures!

I read once in the lily forum that lily bulbs are best planted in the fall because they actually grow slowly in the winter and establish themselves. I also read that they resent being transplanted in the spring. Maybe that was the problem. This lily makes huge amounts of "bulblets" If anyone had bad luck with the lily baby and wants to try growing some of these bulblets this fall or early next spring, I would be happy to collect you some and send them off. Won't even make you pay postage this time.

Monroe, NC(Zone 7b)

Oops. I hit the send button too soon. I meant to attach a photo of all the bulblets so you could see how prolific she is.

Concord, NH(Zone 5a)

Yes I would love a clump. Gonna check your trade list. They look like the ones I remeber in my peperes(?spelling) yard, out by his barn Course that was in the mid 1960s.

Monroe, NC(Zone 7b)

What is a peperes yard?

Concord, NH(Zone 5a)

Would take some of the lily babies too. They would look pretty next to my brook. I looked at your trade page but didnt see any wants.

Monroe, NC(Zone 7b)

I'm a pretty easy trader. If I don't have it....I want it! I even like house plants...I don't have very many daylilies. I have no named regular lilies. Honest..I'm easy!

Concord, NH(Zone 5a)

Well I have purple and spiderwort, coral bells andhm lemme go look okay? Yellow primrose. I also dont have much in the daylily dept yet.

Albany, OR(Zone 8a)

Robin, could I have some to replace the ones you sent me? As I said before, only one is barely hanging on.
Thanks, Carol

Monroe, NC(Zone 7b)

Sure Carol. I'll put your name in my trade tracker to remind me to send some to you. Do you know the right time to harvest the bulblets? Maybe I should ask that question on the lily forum if you don't know.

Monroe, NC(Zone 7b)

nanners...You motivated me to add my wants to my trade list. Check it out. Maybe you will see something. Once I got going with the wants...it got a little long :)

Albany, OR(Zone 8a)

I am not sure. I am assuming they can be dug in the fall okay. Yes, ask in the Lily Forum. They know best there.
Thanks, do appreciate it.
Carol
