CLOSED: antique lilies

Monroe, NC(Zone 7b)

I have a home built in the late 1800's that has lots of cool old plants that have been around forever. The trumpet lilies put off a zillion seeds and this spring I have babies everywhere. Anyone want any? Postage only. I don't know the actual variety but may have photos of the mother plant in flower in a few weeks. For sure it is some very OLD variety.

Yes Please : )
do you want bubble or non?

Monroe, NC(Zone 7b)

Wow, lots of people want lilies! I think I have enough to send a few to everyone that responded so far, but that is it. This is my first week at Dave's Garden so I am a little green (pardon the pun) at this. These lilies are very small because they are from seeds so I think I will bundle 5-6 in a moist chunk of soil and wrap tight in saran wrap. Then stick in a padded envelope and drop in the mail with about 3 stamps on it. For those of you above, why don't you just drop a buck or 4 stamps in the mail to me and call it good. If some of you who are more experienced at this have an easier way, let me know. What is the best way to get everyone's address without posting it to the world? What is the best way to give you my address for postage withouth posting it? Sorry for so many questions. If any of you guys actually figure out the variety of this liliy I would love to know it! Keep me posted.

Western, WI(Zone 4a)

Do you have any left? You must be over welmed with the requests.

Maxine

Monroe, NC(Zone 7b)

Hi Maxine. I will try to pack these up today if I get addresses. If I have any left I will send you some too. How do I get everyones address?

Gulfport, MS(Zone 8a)

With so many responses, it would be easier on you if you posted for everyone to email you their addy and to put "antique lilies" in the subject line. When they email you, you can give them your addy.
I'm thinking you'll be out money if you only ask for $1.00....especially if you plan on using a bubble mailer. Please take that into consideration.
Will the bulblets be safe in a mailer? I would hate to think they'ed get squished.

Monroe, NC(Zone 7b)

Thanks MSJen. I can tell you are a person of experience. Ok. All you guys who I said I would send these to, please e mail me your address with antique lilies in the subject line. Just a dollar is fine this time, probably after this I will have a better idea of what it actually costs to ship these. I think the bulblets will be OK if I put bubble wrap around them. I await your addresses. Thanks again MSJen for the advice and help.

Winchester, KY(Zone 6a)

Perhaps after they bloom you can save the seed, then with so much interest you can trade for other fun stuff or can send for postage wich would be cheap. Can't wait to see your pics-I love heirlooms!

Gulfport, MS(Zone 8a)

You're welcome and get ready for a wild ride, lol

Albany, OR(Zone 8a)

Sent you an e-mail, Tripmaster,
Maybe put your address in the address exchange or e-mail back so we can all have sent you the money for the lilies.
Thanks so much,
Carol

Thanks to all for being patient with a new Daves member.

Hi Thripmaster,
Lucky you! My house was built around 1880 or so. The previous homeowner apparently got rid of most of the garden and later only self-installed curb appeal.. Yeah, he used garbage bags as weed barrier.
So far the only real survivors have been some daffodils that he built a fence over and some daylilies that will probably survive with the cockroaches when we are long gone. The next door neighbors were very happy when they saw me taking out the ivy he planted on that fence. It would grow right in-between the siding on their house. This year I'm going to try to move the Sweet Autumn Clematis that takes over their meter and grows into their window AC.

Long story short... you will have to post pictures and stories of all the other survivors of your garden.

Pocahontas, TN(Zone 7b)

Tripmaster - do you have PayPal?

Monroe, NC(Zone 7b)

Yes, I do have PayPal. I love hearing stories of old homes. The gardens have such history. Luckily only 1 lady owned my house for over 80 year until she died 2 years ago. She was an avid gardener and there are cool stuff all around. Many types of daffodills, a beautiful apricot double day lily, ginger, ginger lilies, lots of roses but I don't know what kind they are. I'll send pictures in a week or so. Everything is right on the edge of complete bloom. I sent everyone's lilies today except gumlla. Gumlla, do you have a stateside address? I am worried about sending plant material to Pakistan. Is it legal?

Box Springs, GA

Thripmaster-please let me know if you have any extra!I would really love to have a couple:)

Western, WI(Zone 4a)

thripmaster, you have mail.

Do you have any left? I seem to have been lazy about checking the plant trading forum.
Jenniew

Monroe, NC(Zone 7b)

Hi Jenniew. I have one left all packaged and ready to mail to kaleem. If he doesn't have a stateside address that I can send it to I will send it to you. Otherwise, I'll wait a few weeks and see what pops up in the garden. They seem to be everywhere so I bet a few more will come along for me to send you. Must have been a good year for lilies last year.

Pocahontas, TN(Zone 7b)

FYI your "CLOSED" notice dropped off - Judy

Albany, OR(Zone 8a)

Robin,
I sent you a check in the mail just today.
So am looking foward to the lilies. Thanks/
If the apricot double daylily needs to be divided, I would love to either trade or SASE for this one. It sounds so pretty. Seeing pictures of it all would be great.

Frederick, MD(Zone 6b)

Hey, I just saw this thread.... Maybe when we do that salvia swap in fall you could send me a few baby lilies too? I know I'll have other stuff by then as well. At the moment, I have a ton of 'Kentucky Colonal' spearmint that came up all over my "overflow" veggie bed (eventually, I'll put perennials there, but this year it will do fine as a home for a couple dozen "extra" tomatoes). I just tried sending some of that in a BE, and I'm anxious to hear how well it traveled.

Western, WI(Zone 4a)

thripmaster, a very warm welcome to Daves Garden from the cooler state of Wisc.
You will find many generous gardeners here, all willing to share.
Will put the money in a bubble envelope tomorrow possibly with a plant enclosed.
