Hey all,
I just planted 13 bare roots. A few mountain ash, some poplar hybrids, a lilac or two, and a corkscrew willow. I am looking for some advice to help the stay happy and healthy. I watered them relatively thoroughly, and the ground is nice and moist this week thanks to some spring rains. They are all around 3 to 4 feet tall.
Thanks in advance,
Nick
Bare root trees
Did you prune the tops when you planted? Keep the soil moist until the trees get established. Willows are water hogs. I hope you planted it far from the other trees. After a few weeks fertilize with fertilizer designed for trees not too high in nitrogen.

hijacking this post to ask how much to prune off the top of a bareroot tree? I'm expecting 2 dozen specimens from National Arborday Foundation and imagine they'll all be bareroot.
Thanks, Betty.
I did not do much pruning as the trees were not that large. They seemed pretty healthy. I did water heavily, and the willow as an acre all to herself. Hah.
Would a balanced 10-10-10 fertilizer be good? Any other tips?
Thanks
Nick
