Rattail in full bloom

Camano Island, WA(Zone 8a)

Hi Gourd, I started a little thread with my few pics. When I discovered those fabulous blooms last year, I was hooked. I think some of the appeal is that the plants themselves (cough) are a bit unassuming. Then POW! A huge and beautiful bloom knocks you over!
I'll never get them to bloom like those who have the light and warmth do, but it's fun anyway.

Gourd would like to trade for a couple cuttings of this one I have

I know very little about these but I have a Hylocereus hybrid American Beauty which has not bloomed yet and have another "yellow Noid" that I think may also be a dragon fruit judging by the growth habit. What do you think?

1st is the yellow noid
2ns is Hylocereus hybrid American Beauty

I have some rooted American Beauty I would love to trade for some Rat Tail as shown above. bob

I would love to know someones opinion on those too. I have several of those and until now had no clue what kind of epi/dragonfruit/rattail they might be. I have tried several times to identify them, but they have never bloomed. So until they do, I just enjoy the weird growth and will them to bloom.

Ibartoo, do you have photos, maybe we can I'd them, I've had several weird ones ..lol and now I have a few I just acquired . I'm going to Tucson to some cacti nurseries In couple of weeks and plan to find cactus I can't live without, hopefully they have some golden rattail and some called monkey tails, they have so many.. Post a photo of yours if you can,

Tucson! I want to go!, LOL. I lived there when I was a kid. I miss it a lot. I will post some pics as well as the names I think some might be. you must take pics of all the cacti at the nursery there for me.

I really miss the big saguaro cacti and the little barrel cacti that grew all over our yard.

Linda, even their Lowes has neat cacti. I'll try to take photos, I'm really bad about that. We go every couple of years cacti shopping in Tucson . This will be the third trip. We come back with the truck loaded. I'm hoping for a few special plants. I've got a dozen Adenduim Desert Rose Plants but they are all the same color and one made a seed pod on its own, I'm really happy about that.

You need to hi back there when you can. We live four hours away so it's not so bad to go for two days or even overnight just shopping. I'm looking forward to this trip for sure and I'm making a list of what I'm looking for. I don't look forward to the heat there.

Bob, taking your box thus am..

You cannot imagine how frustrating it is reading about all the access you folks have to plant nurseries and garden shops.
OK, so Hawaii is beautiful and we have our share of tropical plants but we cant get access to anything like the variety of plants you can. Even our variety of tropicals is limited. Oh we got Lowes and Walmart and few local nurseries but no variety. Dept of Ag is understandably paranoid about bringing in invasive plants and diseases that would go rampant in our climate but there must be a way. Orchid Cactus are not invasive so I think I'm OK
Might not be a good thing all the time but the internet, ebay and the USPS shipping boxes have presented some opportunity. Recent invasives are giant black palm beetles, Cocqui frogs from Puerto Rico and fire ants.
Must get off my soap box. Probably should do this on a different forum. Does Daves have a soap box forum :)

Lol, it's okay to vent here.

I used to buy lists of plumeria from Hawaii . He used to mail cuttings and sell on ebay. I don't see why we can't send cuttings to you. They would not have soil so that would be okay. Right?

I wish I could be there to collect some of your native morning glory seeds, you have beautiful vines there that we wish and dream to have. But, I do understand how you feel, I feel that way about cactus and succulents.

Mike, I understand. Even with the variety I have here, and given the fact that my winter temperatures seldom go into the low 20's ( ok once in a while the teens) but until this past year, it hasn't been cold enough to use my woodstove, I still do everything I can to grow the exotic things that I know will not survive in my winter conditions. I cannot though imagine being limited that much.
