This lily I had originally identified as "Italia" which does not appear correct. Italia is more red than this one (this one has a deep pink color which glows in the sun. Definitely not red).
Can any one help identify it ?
* pink buds after coloring-up
* upfacing flowers (1a)
* dark brown pollen
* pink, or purple pistil
* lower half of flower petals are yellow with brown spots, upper half is deep pink. spots generally stay on lower half with only a few above this point.
* petals are not ruffled but slightly recurved.
* nectaries have no color (white rough lines only)
* high bud count
* dark green shiney foliage with distinct midrib vein
This is NOT an LA lily (e.g. not Kiss-Me-Kate, etc). It is an asiatic lily and the petals are not as thick and waxy as LA lilies.
Thanks for any help you can provide.

I really think yours looks a lot like the photos of Italia I've seen. I planted some last Fall, but have moved to a new home so I'll likely not be able to see my blooms.
Hi Ken,
It also looks link Royal Sunset.
Pam
langbr, the one which gets closest would be Parfait Frost, but my lily does not have black/dark brown pollen and stigma. The stigma on my lily is dark pink and the pollen medium brown.
Corrida has downfacing flowers and is taller. My lily only has upfacing flowers. It is about 2.5-3 feet tall in partial shade.
Royal sunset is an LA lily. One of my favorites, but it is not that one. Royal sunshet is a lot more orange.
Maybe I need to take another look at Italia, but I always thought Italia is more red than mine. FYI, I think the particular picture i posted captured the colors pretty well.
Kenneth
Methinks it IS Italia. Go look at the Brecks picture.
Inanda
Thanks inada, but even the pictures on brecks are not consistent with my lily. Brecks picture has a style tip which is dark (black).. my lily has a dark pink style tip. the pollen color is also different. On my lily the transition between yellow and red also appear slightly different.
This is what RHS says about Italia
quote
Deep pink (47D), tips edged strong reddish orange (34C), throat light greenish
yellow (5D), outside light yellowish pink (38D) with strong yellowish pink margins;
spots dark red (187A); pollen brownish orange (172C). Fls 170mm wide; petals 90
x 45mm, not ruffled. not recurved. Lvs alternate, 100 x 15mm, pale green. Stems
1.5m, green, with darker markings and c11-12 fls.

My lily does not have light green throat.
** Bummer **
Oh well, guess we shall have to file it with Brendas unknown.
I just HATE not being able to ID lilium
Inanda
Me too.. oh well !!
Last try - Colloseo seems to have tiny bit of green throat but DOES have rough white lines as a nectary guide.
Inanda
Oh my, Oh my.. I may very well be Colloseo.. Thank you very much
Colloseo...I've never heard of that one. Is there a photo some where? You two are so over my head! LOL Off to google.
Yes there is a picture in the very first picture in this post (* smile *)
LOL. That's too cute, Kenneth! I wanted to compare!
I know.. I just could not help myself.

Yep! I'd say that's a dead ringer for yours, Kenneth. Wow to have that field of Colloseo!
I bought it as "Italia" but it is clearly not (I know Italia very well).
I like the play on words... Colloseo being located in Italy. And the similarity betweeen Colloseo and italia. I bet they are closely related. Maybe seed grown siblings or one is the parent of the other.. just my own personal guess..
Probably a good hunch, Kenneth. In my googling I saw that Colloseo is italian. Is that italian for colloseum? They are very similiar indeed.
I don't speak italian, but yes, it would be my guess for translation, too.
Both lilies were registered at the same time in 1989 by the same hybridizer (Hoffgaarde B.V.). both has parentage unknown.
Could they be two seedlings from same batch ?
the plot thickens.....
