I purchased several of these bushes dormant. At this point, one of the Weigela has started putting out leaves. The other one hasn't done anything. The Little Henry bushes aren't actively doing anything. I guess there is one that may have some very, very small leaves coming out. They have been in the ground for approximately 4-5 weeks. My question is, does anyone have any experience with these bushes and when they typically break dormancy? Also, how do I tell if they are truly dead or just really slow? Finally, is there anything that I can do that will help them break dormancy? I don't really know what it would be, but you never know.
Thanks for your help. I am loving it at DG.

Dormant - Little Henry® Sweetspire and Weigela Wine & Roses
Hi Shuggins
I am in 8a zone and Weigela is very hardy. You mention there are leaves coming out on it, so it sounds OK. As for the other, I can help you there.
To find out if it is dead or alive, just gently scrape a tiny piece of bark with your nail - if green, it's alive. Another test is to gently bend the branch - if it bends it's OK - if it snaps, that branch is dead. Don't forget - be very gentle!
Good luck
Sue
