I've been a little busy, lately

GOD's Green Earth, United States(Zone 8b)

Finally, I have the majority of my brugs in the ground -- around 300 so far. Today I also finished applying the first load of mulch (6 cubic yards), with the remaining 6 to be picked up tomorrow morning. Here are some of my driveway babies:

Another view. The truck and trailer are ready to take me to the recycle enter for the remaining mulch. That's why I haven't been around much lately.......

that is absolutely gorgeous. I've yet to enjoy the fragrance of my first brug, but seeing your driveway, I can only imagine the heaven it must be at bloom time. 300, wow, double wow

Ashton, IL(Zone 5a)

I remember pictures from your spring planting last year. 300 brugs - yikes! Are most of these seedlings, or cuttings - or both?

Gretchen it looks fabulous

Lima, OH(Zone 5a)

Such a nice yard. Looks so clean and well kept. What are the 300 brugs? Oldtimers or newer seedlings? Looks like a lot of TLC going into it.

SE Arky, United States(Zone 8a)

My word, Gretchen, you have been one more busy girl, and, WOW, your work has really paid off! It looks super and I look forward to watching it grow. I love your close up photos and all of your lovely brugs and I cannot wait to see what you surprise us with this year. We are expecting 'a damaging thunderstorm' tomorrow night (unless there is a change), and now I'm glad I didn't get my youngest seedlings in the ground - but I will have to move them to cover, if the weather makes it here. Your porch looks so inviting and your home is beautiful!!!!

Kannapolis, NC(Zone 7b)

Looks fantastic, Gretchen.

Buffalo, NY(Zone 6a)

Gretchen, you are amazing!.....your brugs look so happy and healthy.
I think that saying you've been a "little" busy is a definite understatement.
Can't wait to see your beautiful blooms.

Wow! You've sure been busy. Your gardens look fabulous.
I can't wait to see all those Brugs blooming this summer.

Gretchen, your yard is lovely! It looks like you love your work. I can just imagine how beautiful it will be in a couple of months when these brug babies aren't babies any longer. I can also imagine the wonderful perfume!

Geesh Gretchen, your second year of amazement, and now 300!
You didn't let any stay in the ground to overwinter? Or do you only like all brand new babies?

Whichever you're doing, kudos to you, wish I had your energy! This summer we want lots more photos please :)

Herbstein, Germany(Zone 5a)

Gretchen, you have been very busy!!! Your garden looks beautiful. It will be a great sight, when everything is blooming.

I was wondering where you were Gretchen...I missed you and your posts!
You have done a wonderful job...again... :-)
Did your new baby come yet, yes, I remember she did! Have you gotten to visit her yet?

If Gretchen could bottle her energy and sell it, she would be a millionaire. Can you just imagine planting and mulching 300 brugs all by yourself. I think she does all of the yardwork as well. I never had that kind of energy, even when I was young. I don't live too far from Gretchen, and I have a goal this summer when hers are blooming to stroll down her driveway.

Ellicott City, MD(Zone 7a)

WOW! Very impressive!! 300+ Brugs blooming this Summer with their delicious scent will be absolutely heavenly!!

Angleton, TX(Zone 9a)

Gretchen.......everything looks wonderful and will only get more beautiful as time goes by. You definitely have been one busy lady and the results show.

Harlem, GA(Zone 8a)

Gretchen, you go girl! It looks great again this year. I would LOVE to see what they looked like last year when you did this when they were in bloom. Please let us see if you have any. Lovely landscaping!

Thank you all so much! I'll try to answer all your questions and respond to all your comments:

Vossner -- thanks! Its a little overwhelming, but hopefully it'll be interesting at the very least.

Eileen -- they are a combination -- cuttings (about 30); seedlings (about 250) and the rest are happy returns from last year, that overwintered in the ground.

Donna, Gloria, Ada, Jackie, Kay, Terry, Monika, Plantnutz, Sarv, Bonnie, Doris, Susan, Frannie, Shirley and Julie -- thank you each and everyone for your lovely, kind comments!

Sherry -- Thank you! I sure hope you weathered the storm okay!!!

Vi -- I have fifty plus that made it through the winter in the ground! I was very pleasantly surprised. They are very robust and growing like crazy.

Susan -- Thank you! There are lots of pix from last year, I'll have to dig them out. If you have lots of time and are really bored, you could go to my home page here at Dave's Garden and look through some of the old threads I started in the Brug Forum. I honestly can't remember what I have there...

Margie -- Thank you -- I have been up to my eyeballs in alligators since we got back from Miami, trying to get caught up on gardening and Spring cleaning chores. We were there for a week and had an absolutely fantastic time. Madeline is a living doll!!!

Sylvia -- as I've said before, you are way too kind, and my front gate is always open. You come by anytime!

I went to the Recycle Center today only to find that they were out of mulch due to their chipper being out of commission! Ugh... So I spent the day cleaning off my porch and porch furniture, and planting all but one last flat of babies that need at least another week before going in the ground.

Oh, I almost forgot, the seedlings are all other people's hybrids. I do have a few of my own, but for the most part, I'm growing these for some awesome ladies that have entrusted me with them.

You have inspired me to get my butt busy! Looks great! I can't wait to see it come on!

OMG, there are NO weeds, how do you do that????????

Ashton, IL(Zone 5a)

Wow Gretchen, so many seedlings - we are sure to be seeing some awesome new blooms in your yard this summer. Hopefully, you'll have time to take lots of pictures and share them with us. I am totally impressed with your gardening energy!

Simply amazing, Gretchen! Beautiful yard. Luv your huge cactus pads amongst the brugs.

GOD's Green Earth, United States(Zone 8b)

You all are too sweet!

Frannie -- I have all the beds on buried soaker hoses with feeder hoses to connect them to the timers. We haven't had rain in so long that I'm having to water one after another, pretty much all night long. And when its really hot and windy, like today, I have to provide supplemental water with 250' of hose and with a long necked nozzle end. Its quite a job!

Mary -- I have 4-6" of mulch on the beds and its a great weed preventer. Plus necessary in this climate for moisture retention and to help keep the roots cooler.

Julie -- I just looked at those pix -- what a zoo! It will not be quite that busy this year. I am not doing all the seeds I did last year, as its just too much to keep up with dead-heading on this scale.

Eileen -- I will definitely take lots of pix. There are some pretty amazing crosses growing here, and I can't wait to see the blooms myself!

Donna -- its amazing that the cacti survive in that brug bed. Its semi-shady and fairly moist. Go figure. I put them there before I put the brugs there...

Thank you all so much!!!

Back to work...

Angleton, TX(Zone 9a)

Gretchen, I am a believer in at least 4" of mulch because as you said it is a great weed preventer and saves me many hours that I would have to spend weeding if I did not apply it heavy each year. The cost of applying it thick it is worth it to me. I do not like to weed at all!!!

Ventura, United States(Zone 10b)

Gretchen, you are an amazing gardener. Your yard looks like a little piece of heaven to me. Wonderful job! I can't wait to see pictures of it when you get more growth and blooms! Good luck with all your seedlings. I hope you get some wonderful flowers from those seedlings.

GOD's Green Earth, United States(Zone 8b)

Frannie -- I'm with you on that! I hate pulling weeds!!! You might want to check with your local extension office regarding mulch. I get mine free from the county recycle center. Its not the cleanest in the world, but the price is right and it definitely does the job.

Clare -- thank you, you are such a sweetie! Mine will never compare to yours, though!!! I have high hopes for these seedlings, so we'll see..... I finally have everything pretty well caught up, so hopefully I can get back to semi-regular posting. I've missed all of you!!!!!!!!!!

I'm worn out after 150. I don't know how you do it. You and Ada have too much energy. LOL! Looking forward to this year's pictures. I hope you have some nice pink ones this year since you didn't have many last year. A little variety in color will be nice. Everything looks just great, Gretchen.

Kannapolis, NC(Zone 7b)

Energy!!! What's that? It's push power. LOL

Buffalo, NY(Zone 6a)

Gretchen, Brugie and Ada, I feel like a slug in comparison..LOL
All of your pictures are beautiful, and the work that everybody does is inspiring.
I have to get my butt in gear too, if only the weather would cooperate!

SE Arky, United States(Zone 8a)

Me too Jackie, there just aren't enough hours in the day!!! They are loaded with energy and, as if that isn't enough, they all grow wonderful brugs and take unbelievably professional photos!! Oh, well, it's fun to have talented pals!!!
