Took a few days, but I got her done.
Doesn't look like much now, wind has stripped everything to shreds, but its all planted in the composted beds, and hope to see some results pretty soon.
Bananas, gingers, hibiscuses, crotons, heliconas, draceanas, passiflora vines, several alocasias and other tropicals as well.
Will post a new pic every month so we can see the changes in growth,if the wind doesn't blow everything away!!!
Tropical garden planted
It is amazing what a couple months of warm weather will do to a garden. I look forward to seeing pictures later on. I know it must be a good feeling to have it all in the ground.
It's going to look amazing when everything starts to fill in. Keep us posted.
:) Donna
Wow, you sure have a lot planted in a little space!
Yep,it feels darn good to have everything out of the greenhouses and into the ground, now I must have patience,I want things to grow right now!!!LOL!
Bring on the warmth!!!
Thanks I'll post new pics when I see things start to grow.
Don, everything looks great! I know how hard you work to bring it all together and hope your back is all right. I am so looking forward to seeing your pictures this summer:-) You truly have amazing gardening skills to make this all work year after year. It gives me hope for when I move to Colorado in a couple of years.
Thanks Clare,am anxious to see it all come together also, back seems to be holding up so far, amazing how heavy those bananas are after being under the
house all winter, almosy as heavy as when they went under there.
Yep when you retire to Colorady,it will be a whole new gardening game for you.
It ought to be interesting.I'll help you, just give me a holler!!!
Tropicman trying to figure out where you live. I did see the address on the house in one of the pictures. So the next time my DH and I are in Wichita with his Dodge I can make a raid on your place. You don't have any mean dogs do you? But if you do they will smell my dogs on me and probably help me load up the Dodge. LOL
With all kidding aside, your garden is really something. Keep up the good job and keep them pictures coming. LOVE THEM.
Linda
I am sure it is going to be beautiful this summer.
Hey big guy, where ya been?? It's been a long winter with no chats with you! :)
Glad to see ya got er done! I am sure it will rock in a month!
Thanks, Don. You're a sweetie. Yep, I don't know how you manage it, but every year you put up Paradise where there was nothing before! I'm sure the whole place will be lush in no time. I hope Patti is well too.
Thanks, yeah, have to pack them in like sardines to get everything in the ground, makes it lush looking when fall comes, and time to dig it all back up!
Hey Linda,I'm in the book, look me up next time your in town after you have stopped and bought all your plants from the nurseries in town!!!
Chele, been keeping busy.like you, everytime I talk to you, theres another addition to your family household, and I ain't talking pets!!LOL!And what you have might be catching, and I'm too old and tired for raising another, besides I have 22 grand kids already!!!Oh,keep that coldfront heading your way for the weekend!!!
Yep Pattis doing fine, fixin my supper as we speak, plants are doing fine, growin like weeds, and that press and seal stuff you used works great for shipping plants and cuttings, smart thinking!!!
LOL, Don, thanks! I'm glad to hear that Patti is doing good too.
Glorious, glorious! I'm looking forward to next month's pictures!
Lookin good Tman! we are getting whipped with wind today,I hope you did not get hit with the storms last night.
Sorry to hear about those storms hitting your area, Doc and Don. It is a shame to hear that houses were destroyed and farm animals were killed by tornadoes touching down. I hope you, your families, your animals, and your gardens are all okay.
Nice job!! I like the little thatched hut thingy.. I'm trying to build a bar (tiki) for my new Hawaiian garden this summer.I have a truckload of palm leaves(dried) fan type ,to use for the roof.Should be an interesting summer. Again..great job! :-)
Hey Tropicman,
What is that cool looking plant on the right of the 4th picture. It looks really neat!!
Jen,can hardly wait myself to see the differences.
Hey root,The storms missed us,not even a drop of rain, but those winds has snapped my 5 ft ice cream banana right off at ground level,it only had to leaves that were already shredded to peices, took leaves right of the stems of some alocasias, been moving potted plants back inside and covering others, cold snap headed our way, hope you doing the same up in KC.
Clare ok here, plants look really bad, wind gust to over 50mph has taken its toll on everything.
Eclipse Tiki Bar sounds interesting pictures to follow, please,I love building things like that!
PPhil,thats a recurving yucca,really looks tropical huh!
LOL Tman! I have nothing to announce right now. And YOU are only as old as you feel. :)
Are you going to cover up anything tonight? I have 24 tomatoes and 8 peppers in the ground I figure I'd best cover up if it's really going to get to 30 F.
Oh yeah.. I'm not awake good yet. Your yard is just AMAZING. I pass by another one every day that does a lot of tropicals.. It's out west at Central and Parkdale. Just really tears me up though because evidently they don't try to save them when winter comes. They just let winter take the tropicals and start over with new big huge ones in the spring. Either they own a nursery or have more money than they know what to do with. :)

Yes cover up tonite and maybe most of the week it looks like a frost watch tonite and tuesday nite.
I know the place on the corner your talking about, met Randy last year, took a tour of his garden,he makes a trip down to Dallas, about this time every year and buys at the farmers market, says the prices are great.
So he can afford to let them die each winter and buy new each spring.
I like the wintering over, puts me one on one with the plants.like family,if you know my ,meaning, feel like a real gardner.
Come by for a tour, later in the season when things take off and start to grow.
FEEL like a real gardner? It seems to me that you ARE a real gardener. (rofl) The most tropical thing I've attempted here is canna. Those mostly overwinter in the ground. I used to grow phalaenopsis orchids when i lived in Wisconsin but after going to the trouble of hiring a Uhaul and unpotting all of them and repotting when I got here I managed to kill 200 of them... It was in October and I had forgotten how harsh the Kansas sun could be and totally cooked them all by letting the sun get on them right away outdoors.
Did this Randy happen to mention where he gets the totally awesome pots you can see parked around his yard? Inquisitive minds wish to know. :)
Thanks for the offer of a tour. My gardening friend and I may like to take you up on that later on. My yard here is more utilitarian with two large veggie gardens in back although I have been getting some nice reblooming iris going.
Looks great Don. I sure hope that frost doesn't get to you, but it is sounding pretty wide spread.
So sorry about that wind damage, Don. Don't give up! I know you can make it come together anyway! I'm so sorry the weather is making things even tougher on you.
WOW looking FANTASTIC..............Don you've done it again (Florida in KS) !!! Ü
Looks so great, makes me impatient to get all mine out......
I WILL NOT jump the gun this year.........
No, he didn't mention where he got his pots,Hongs Nursery carries quite a few, from 350 bucks to 900 bucks, way out of my price range for sure, you might try natures way they have lots, still out of my range also,if this sounds like I'm poor,I am!!!LOL!
Clare you know me,never say die!!!
LiIl,give me a couple months, and it will look like Orlando!!!
CC,I checked the long forcast for the month of April, they didn't see this coming either!!!
I thing someone upset mother nature!!!LOL!
Tropicman--Believe me, that price is way way out of my range. :)
Actually, I like the looks of your jungle more. The pictures I saw from last year look like it actually grew there by your house. Heehees.... I betcha you are the cause of a lot of *inattentive driving* as people pass your house.
Every time I see the small pic here, it reminds me of a shot straight out of Wizard of Oz! LOL Do all Kansas pics look that way?
Yes,I think the word gets out at about the nut on the southside of town growing a jungle in his front yard!LOL! Like they say build it and they will come, and they do.
Chele,Kansas was once the tropics, according to the geologist!
Thats was a course before the earths axis slipped off its rocker!!LOL!
Something slipped off the rocker alright. LOL
LOL! Duh! Wife thinks that way also!!!
Saskatchewan was too at one time...........Imma thinkin' we live in a time warp Don! But for you, and with your hard work, Kansas can still truly become the tropics once again. :)
LOL! My body feels like it's still in a time warp!LOL!
Yep a little warmth and sunshine and a little time, tropics will once again be here!
You getting any of that snowfall up there?
Predicting some on Wednesday......seems so incredibly cruel, we've had many days of just right summertime temps (75 to 80F) and then this in our forecast?!? :b
I know, making you think spring has sprung, then here comes another taste of realality!Dawng!!!!
I watch the weather channel closely, and they didn't mention this cold front until 24 hours before it happened, I know a lot of factors in predicting the weather, but when they give a 7 day weather planner, they should say, this only a 50% possibility. Most of the time they do a great job,but were talking plants, here my babies I'm planting outside!!!
