I wanted to add my photo to the database.
It is sold by Park Seed as "Wedgewood Improved" Dutch iris
Should I just post the photo under "Wedgewood" ?
adding an "improved" one
Good question Charlotte!
I also have a 'like' question. How would you add a tulip that is a named cultivar of a company that sells retail.
How would one know that this is something of interest to PF?
The "improved" cultivars are pesky to be sure. I use the general rule of thumb that it has to be offered by multiple vendors in order to consider it valid. (Just because one retailer thinks they've got an improved variety isn't enough for me.)
Same goes for a cultivar named for a company - unless others are selling it, it's a no-go.
Does that help? (I know it's a bit subjective....trust me, that's where "the rub" is for all of us!)
Thank you Terry, I will try to contact Park Seed and see if they will tell me where they got this and more info about it. It is very beautiful.
A couple points to consider...
General rules of thumb are necessary ,but the general rule of thumb as stated here has another aspect to it and that is that all (!) vendors have a pecuniary interest and the 'copycat' phenomenon as it relates to vendors wanting to offer the same new and improved varieties as everyone else is a realistic factor...despite all the 'holier than the others' sales promoting proclamations...additionally many companies will refuse to sell a product that carries another companies name, regardless of the good qualities of the product, because this is seen as self-defeating.
Just some aspects rthat I felt worthy of consideration...
I heartly agree Ron, the other point I'd like to make here is that the word 'improved' is occasionally a marketing ploy too.
