suggestions for shrub

what would be a good shrub to put in between boxwoods...(2 large ones died) and had to be removed..I don't want to go back with boxwood. It is an area that gets morning sun and is background for my perennial bed.

How tall are the perennials at the back? Would you consider a reblooming rose or do you want another evergreen?

I don't think I have enough sun for a rose...it would be behind Ligularia...and no it does not have to be evergreen.

Pieris japonica is one of my all time favorites, and has great year round colors and interest.

I have quite a few shade tolerant roses that still bloom repeatedly. SO if you wanted one, that's possible. But, if not, how about one of the smaller Viburnums, such as plicatum var. tomentosum 'Watanabei'. MANY THANKS......I LOVE PIERIS AND VIBURNUM AND PROBABLY WILL GO WITH ONE OF THEM. I HAVE JUDDII AND SUMMER SNOWFLAKE...BUT NO TOMENTOSA.

Uh oh. According to the link I sent, Summer Snowflake is one of the (maybe) 7 names used for Watanabei. So it looks like you already have it elsewhere. Are 2 better than 1?

Oh, I have learned something...and yes of course 2 are always better than one...Actually my snowflake gets quite large...almost tree like.
