Hi everyone,
I'm newly addicted to hoyas:) I started out with a Carnosa Tricolor from HD almost 2 months ago. The pink and cream variegation is what attracted me the most. Not long after, Hindu Rope(green and variegated) found a path straight to my door! Now, I sit waiting for an arrival from Logees of Hoya Bella. (sigh..........) Soon after, I'll be receiving Pink Silver, Lacunosa and Cumingiana from Glasshouse works. (another sigh............)
It's very interesting to read about all the different topics for Hoyas. You all seem like a really nice and helpful bunch. Happy growing!

New to this addiction........
That's how it starts and in no time you'll have your place filled with Hoyas :)

Boy have I found out the hard way that you can't buy just one!!! I like yourself am still quite new to hoyas but have somehow managed to bring my collection from less than 6 plants (hoyas) to over 60 in just a matter of months and there doesn't appear to be an end in sight for this addiction.
All I can tell you is hang on and enjoy the ride!!!!
GrowHappy, those were my first two hoya as well. I was off to go plant shopping with a buddy one day and my DH begged me not to bring home any more daylilies. He was obviously over it! I picked up a 4" pot of Hoya compacta Hindu Rope because of the interesting foliage. I brought it home, repotted it and ignored it except for a splash of water every now and then.
It bloomed the next spring and the addiction began.
Funny though as DH hasn't yet told me not to bring home another Hoya. He built me a beautiful greenhouse to keep them warm in winter.
Watch out though, this is what it can turn into... and this is just a drop in a bucket.

Yeah...I am going to change my name to Aloha Hoya Addict - LOL
....I started reading this forum, now I need a bigger office....for my Hoyas....!
I was firmly addicted years ago before I found Dave's, with only had five different hoyas. I had no idea just how many varieties there are. When I'd find a new one, I'd be ecstatic. I have six different hoyas now....but I have eight more varieties coming soon. Counting babies, I have 23 hoya plants right now. I have carnosa (my starter hoya), holliana, hindu rope, krimson princess and krimson queen. I also have noids from a friend's plant, which I think are bellas-time, and flowers, will tell. They're all just so wonderful.
It truly is amazing how quickly you can rack up all the different varieties. You see one beauty(or smell one!) and you just have to have it. I think even some of the names entice me to buy. I was immediately sold on the 'Bella' when I read Logee's description: "candy-like fragrance"(or something similar to that!).
Nightbloomer- what an awesome collection you have in your GH! You are so lucky to have a GH(and a husband who built one for ya!;)
It sounds like most folk start out with the Carnosa and then move on to the other varieties. Ceedub, do you have a pic of the holliana? Is it fragrant?
I'm hanging on for the ride, alright, catsmeow! Flying by the seat of my pants! LOL
From reading various posts, it sounds like Hoyas bloom in their own sweet time?
Growhappy, here's the DG link to H. Hollana, with mine and PanamonCreel's pictures - http://davesgarden.com/pf/go/57704/index.html - its a really unique hoya, with such small leaves.
The H. carnosa 'Holliana' of mine hasn't bloomed yet but since it's a carnosa cultivar I would assume that it would smell about the same as the "big boys" (or girls :).
It looks similar to H. Carnosa Krimson Princess or Queen(?) I can't yet tell the difference b/t the two. What kind of lighting does it receive?
GH
It only looks similar in the varegation of the leaves. The Holliana's leaves are tiny, about 1" wide by 2" long, they kind of krinkle-curl, and the leaves don't turn red the way the Krimson Princess and Queen do. But the flowers are similar to the Carnosa and Krimson Queen. Oh, and the Krimson princess has yellow centres with green borders, and the Queen has green centres with yellow borders.
Edited to say, I give my Holliana bright light but only very early morning direct sun for maybe an hour.
