BA, i did that but thought maybe no one would notice my goof i goof all time must be old age...
Whew! I thought it was just me! lol Yeah, that's happening alot lately for me, old age creepin' up on me quick! hehe
Julie
The chunky one is looking good, but the other one looks like it is toast. Boy, there are going to be a lot of Maya blooms this year.
ohhh, that's too bad! Well one is better than none and there's several who've lost at least one if not both. So you're still in the game.
You need to share some beer with the slugs or encourage lots of fireflies. Slugs are the favorite food of firefly larvae I found out last year.
vossner what size pot do you have your maya potted in? Inquiring minds want to know.
It is really looking great.
Linda
5 gal, for no other reason than that's the only empty one I had at the time.
She looks great Vossner!!! Mine doesn't look that good :-( I'm going to have a heart to heart with her in the morning. I think it may be time for the Epsom dose. Everything I have that I've applied that to is taking off like crazy!
Congrats hon.
Hugs
Julie
Vossner what are you feeding Maya she is looking great. I need to take a picture of mine and get it posted. I have her outside and I did notice today something is snacking on her. I am planning on using Neem oil on all my Brugs in the morning.
Julie, I was reading about Epsom salts today and I read where using it as a foliar feed, the plants take it up much better than from the dirt. I use it on my roses all thetime. THEY LOVE IT!! I am going to foliar feed with it tomorrow!!
PS Vossner, looking good!!!

Kell how much epsom salts do you use??
On my roses I toss a handful under the rose bush about 1 month before it leafs out in the spring. Then after that, I add about 1/2 a cup or so to a 5 gallon bucket of alfalfa sludge. Towards the end of each bloom cycle I pour about 1/4 of the bucket out on each rose bush.
I have tossed about a handful on my potted brugs also. I can't remember if I got a good boost or not from it. LOL. I will foliar feed some tomorrow. Of course I foliar fed with MG today, so I do won't know from what the boost came. LOL
Good job Vossner.
How long has it been outside?
Mine are still are still in the basement but they're coming to the shade today.
Richmond Tex and Richmond VA are hanging in there - mine is about a ft, but not as leafy. (Need to put it outside; some slugs have nibbled).
Kell how much Epsom salts do you use to foliar feed your brugs? I didn't make myself very clear in my last question.
thanks everybody, I can't tell you how thrilled I am about it. I planted it in good soil and have been applying a diluted version of bloom booster about every other week. Slugs are a BIG problem in my area, but I gave up on that fight 2 years ago. Put something around plants whenever I think of it. They seem to move to the tender plants and leave the established ones alone, so the only ones keep a watch on are youngens, as far as slug/snail control.
8ft, I got the cuttings in March. Kept in water 1-2 weeks then potted and they have been out since early April. Skinny Maya rotted on me. But Chunky is fine!
Kell, I also want to know about amt of epson salts for foliar feeding.
pollygardening, yeah for the Richmonds!
Chunky Maya is looking good, Vossner. I had two of these special cuttings, too, but my luck (skill) isn't nearly as good as yours. I don't remember ever wanting a plant to make it as much as those, but it just wasn't my time for Maya.
Congratulations to you. Here's to hoping she gets really tall where the nibblers can't reach her!
You've got some progress there vossner. I hope she can keep outgrowing the bugs.
How much sun does yours get?
maya gets morning sun and aft. shade. fertilize with fert for tropical blooming plants, apply sluggo when I remember (I gave up on the slug wars eons ago) and talk to her nicely.
Recently found that you use 2 TBL per gallon for epsom salts - I'm going to feed all mine this week. They are coming back from a bout with spider mites, so I am eager to see the results.
I'm not giving up on Maya but she was lovely in the spring, summer, until she bloomed, well, her blossoms here, zone 8a, were nothing to write home about, but she's not a bug magnet. As it got hotter, she did not recover, as just about everyone else. I'll give her way more time, but not forever...
Gosh Vossner, is that the one from last spring?? Did that come from me??? We have got to talk. LOL. And it was in the ground too? How hot does it get where you are?
I find no mites ever but the cats come for miles around for breakfast, lunch and dinner. I just spray it with Bt. once every 2 months about and it is fine. I did notice it hates to be inside, dropped all its leaves and freaked out a year or 2 ago. Last winter I left it outside and it did fine even in the frost. So Sherry, you may be right, this one may hate the heat.
I didn't take any pics this year of her, but this is from last year. If you got that cutting from me, this is where it came from. She is a very agressive tree.
howdy. Yes Kell it came from you. The only thing I can think of is that it is planted near a dying hackberry tree. Nothing that I have planted around the tree has made it. I had these beutiful fatsias (for which I paid a small fortune) and after thriving for about a year, died on me almost suddenly. The maya is not right under the tree, but close enough. I chose that location because it is morning sun and afternoon shade. also, the hose is near so it's easy to water.
Other things planted in that general area are mostly tropicals that have done well. It is a mystery to me. Plant is not sick though, just little. I haven't fertilized religiously, but I do fertilize.
We have very hot, humid summers, but this year was unique in that it was horrendously hot and horrendously dry, more like desert heart. weird.
My Maya is liked by cats mostly. Two years ago it had whitefly really bad from out of nowhere they invaded.
Maya in the first year was really small and hardly a bloom. Second year it gained some height and bloomed one flush about July and then just a few blooms after that flush. This year it did really well matured into a nice sized brug and bloomed off and on through out the summer. Had three good flush of blooms.
I had it in an area it got full sun till about noon and then was shaded. I found the perfect spot for Maya I do believe.
Hope she does better for you next year. Don't give Up!!
Kin
Howdy Kin! My gift brugs are doing so well! I can't wait til next spring to plant inground. Already have a space designated. I won't give up, too stubborn to give up, lol
Vossner, I don't know why but one of my Mom's gardener friends always said
not to plant anything but grass where a tree used to be.
Maybe this is what he was talking about when he said the dirt was all used up .
I was really little then so that is all I remember.
Maybe it is like the floor of the rain forests which I read is such poor soil almost nothing will grow after they thoughtlessly hack it down.
The trees got all their nutrients from the rain and air up in the canopy.
Just a thought . I would move that Maya asap if it was mine ;-)

Well that poor plant. It needs HELP! LOL.
good observation I say ;-)
hmmmm. would it be OK to transplant now?
oh I hate it when that happens. I just planted some fern around the @#$%^& tree, don't tell me I'm gonna lose those too!
I would opt for getting her the heck outta there and get her in some new potting mix in a pot and baby her back to health.
Good luck.
