was this a proper addition?
Well, if the USDA's data is to be believed, there are dozens of varieties of Astragalus lentiginosus: http://plants.usda.gov/cgi_bin/topics.cgi?earl=plant_profile.cgi&symbol=ASLE8
Thanks Terry,
What I meant to ask is: is it ok to add a plant as new when there is just a difference in the species?
Bottom line answer is yes. Each entry in PlantFiles represents a unique species, subspecies, variety or cultivar.
At one time, we considered grouping all cultivars under a main entry. When we thought about the fact that there are 40,000-some daylilies, and thousands of Iris, Hostas, Roses, etc. we decided it would be better to give each its own entry. It makes for a larger database to wade through, but there wasn't any other viable alternative given the plants that have hundreds or thousands of hybrids.
Thanks Terry :-)
