Last year we planted a Mahonia aquifolium in a new bed with other evergreens and several ornamental grasses. I love the looks of the Mahonia, but I've never been keen on them when they get spindly-looking. This is in full sun, so I don't think that wil be a problem, but can I (and when should I) prune the shoots back to encourage bushiness?
Pruning Mahonia?
Early Summer works for me. I have mine in full sun too. Good luck.
