What seed would you like to see in a round robin?

(Zone 7a)

Crimson, I have just about all of those seeds. So what have yall come up with???

(Zone 7a)

My RR just ended this year...It started last year. I considered it Very Successful and it had 2 host. Therefore if something happened to me..the other person could take over. We both contributed to filling the box as a start. Unfortunately this RR was by invitation only. But this was because of the source (that other garden trading site!) ha ha ha ha! Welllll anyway..Considering the birdies that flew away I was fortunate. It was a lot of work but really really really fun. When the box finally got back home to me. I sat on the floor looking through. Like a kid with a 10 pound box of candy!!!!

Thanks so much for taking this on and if I can help, please let me know. I have been pouring over seed catalogs this weekend and ordering over the internet. I will list them as soon as I get them. I spent four hours this weekend combing over the "want" lists of some of the members I saw time and time again providing seeds to people. I think I have a good start to getting some seeds that are easy to sow but not found in every garden and then I also ordered those "expert" needed seeds that someone might interested in. Can you wait until end of May to start this Michelle or I can wait until the next one :)

BTW MIchelle - thank you so much for your seeds! I have them currently taped to my window.

Just don't get angry at me if I find a way to screw this up... I'll try very hard not to!

Should we start this after May 30th like you said Mindy?

I'm so excited, I'm going to start putting aside my seed for this!

Monticello 4, IA(Zone 4a)

that would make my day :) I'm trying to get everything in the ground right now :). Was I insiane when I started al these seedlings????

Can I play? Can I play? I don't know how unusual what I have is, but I do have four types of marigolds (Kilimanjaro white, Dwarf French tiger eyes, Petite yellow, and Lemon Gem) I have some flower seeds that are mixes like foxglove(Excelsior mix) or canterbury bells(Calycan mixed colors) or columbine(mixed colors), I have nasturtiums(Scarlet Gleam), I also have a couple different lavenders and purple basil. I bought a beautiful electric blue/purple delphinium and I can't wait until I some seed from it. If this is all common then that's ok too. Just let me know.

What is common for one is a treasure for another. Electric /blue delphoinium and white marigold is a treasure to me. Chocolate vine .. Bats , Agapanthus, Bird of paradise and a few others of them are common to me.

Crimson.... I have a couple of $ o clock Limelight seedlings in 3" pots that wil be ready to go in a bout a week in a half two weeks. I don't like shipping anything less than a solid four inch pot if I can help it if ya want a couple of plants.

Brookeville, MD(Zone 7a)

Should I wait for May 20th to start this?

Frederick, MD(Zone 6b)

Just let us know when to post or email our "uncommon" seed lists for possible inclusion!

Monticello 4, IA(Zone 4a)

May 20th it is then?

Hello!

A few more 'thoughts' before you start this great On Line Special Seeds Round Robin:

- I suggest Michelle consults with Mindy which seeds to accept and which seeds to reject. This will be kept private between the the host, Michelle (aka CaptMicha), Mindy (aka mkeilers) and each participant.

- Michelle could start by pointing out the rules for this OLSSRR - many suggestions have been supplied in this thread.

- I would not mix flowers and veggies - not everybody has a v. garden. Maybe a Special Veggie Seeds OLRR could follow.

- Michelle, maybe you should start preparing a spreadsheet with all the data (for example, name and nick of each participant, seeds accepted to participate (one line for each trade), amount of seeds in each trade, the name and nick of the participant that chose them, etc.

- I have been thinking about Babalu's suggestion that the first person submitting seeds should have first choice from the full list of seeds participating and so on. This does not seem to be fair. There could be people from outside the USA participating and international mail takes longer (does it?). Also, I'm sure there will be many envelopes arriving the first few days - how could Michelle make a fair decision on which one goes first on the list? For this reason, I suggest Mindy should have the first choice because she is the person that came up with this idea. Michelle, as the host that will have a lot of work to do, should have the second choice. The order in which everybody else should make their choice should be decided in a raffle by a member that does not participate in this OLSSRR - maybe Terry?

- Since these are Special Seeds, ask each participant to make sure the seeds they are sending do either have full sowing/growing instructions in the Plant Files or to include them for EACH seed trade. Botanical names should be a must - they are universal language.

- Make the rules and requirements as clear as possible. Remember there will always be people participating for the first time, that are not aware of the 'etiquette'

Good luck to all participants!

Hugs,

Ursula

As I mentioned before, I will not be (directly) participating in this OLSSRR for two main reasons: (1) I have no place for more plants on my balconies and (2) I will be hosting the First International Dave's Garden Roundup next spring (Oct/Nov). However, I want to contribute with some chilean native seeds that I think you will like. Since my seeds are just a contribution, they are not subject to the organizers' approval LOL.

I am sending Michelle the following seeds:

10 trades Sisyrinnchium striatum (15 seeds each)
http://davesgarden.com/pf/go/2188/index.html

5 trades Tropaeolum tricolorum (5 seeds each)
http://davesgarden.com/pf/go/62232/index.html

5 trades Pasithea coerulea (12 seeds each)
http://davesgarden.com/pf/go/84226/index.html

5 trades Encelia oblongifolia (15 seeds each)
http://davesgarden.com/pf/go/96199/index.html

5 trades Argemone hunnemannii (12 seeds each)
http://davesgarden.com/pf/go/92394/index.html

10 trades Libertia formosa (20 seeds each)
http://davesgarden.com/pf/go/93938/index.html
http://images.google.cl/images?q=Libertia+formosa&hl=es

5 trades Rhodophiala bagnoldi (12 seeds each)
http://davesgarden.com/pf/go/84332/index.html

Lots of Nicotiana acuminata
Night blooming fragrant white flowers.

I kindly ask everybody wanting any of these seeds (and having been granted the seeds by the rules of this game) to send Michelle empty labelled baggies (with the name of the seeds). This, because I am sending her just one bag per type of seed (saving international postage LOL) and she will have her hands full sorting out everybodies requests.

I will follow this thread, since I am having as much fun as any of the participants.

Good luck to everybody!

Hugs,

Ursula

Hi
Since there is a post above referencing sending seedlings, I just wanted to clarify that this is a seed trade and not a plant trade.
Jan...

Saint Peters, MO(Zone 6a)

I am interested in participating.
I think I have some things people may like.
Is the deadline for the list of what you have to send to CaptMicha?
I have to go through my seeds. I have lots that I didn't even open
because I just didn't have time to start any more.
Thank you!
Pam

I just hope those seeds don't *dissapear* in the *mail* Ursula. >:) JK! You always have good stuff!

I'm trying to find out whether we're doing the: I'm to have people send me seed for like a seed bank, or if we're just doing a regular round robin where I send it around and people put in what's been aggreed upon, you know, adding and subtracting seed as we go.

I'm going to go read mkeilers's email.

Greenwell Springs, LA(Zone 8b)

please count me in! i've got lotsa cool stuff.

Mystery Box upon my door :)

I received a box in the mail with Robin's return addy on it and my address but Robin tels me it wasn't she who sent it to me.
Is this box for this RR and who might have been so generous??? I actually received it while I was out of town and my children "Forgot" about it until last night - Can you beleive it!!!

Can someone explain the final details of how this is going to work?
Jan...

Frederick, MD(Zone 6b)

Yes, please post the official rules for this! There have been so many good suggestions that I've rather lost track of how exactly this will work, except that I gather I should email CaptMicha by tomorrow!

I will be posting the Round Robin soon. I have to type it up.

Santiago, Chile(Zone 9b)

I have been privately corresponding with Michelle (CaptMicha) about how to host/manage this On Line Special Seeds Round Robin (OLSSRR) and there is no way I can agree with the way she insists to manage this. After several unsuccessfull intents to explain Michelle why I think it is very necessary to point out everything clearly in the rules, I have decided to withdraw my seeds donation from the RR CaptMicha is hosting. No hard feelings - it's just your idea of an OLSSRR is not the same as mine.

I still think this collective creation that followed Mindy's initial question is a great chance to do something different and interesting, even for the ones that are not directly involved. If there is a DGardener with some previous sucessfull experience in RR organization and a 100% good feedback that wants to carry it out the way it was collectively designed, I will be more than happy to donate my seeds.

Hugs,

Ursula

Brookeville, MD(Zone 7a)

Some of our best and long time traders on here don't have 100% positive feedback.

Monticello 4, IA(Zone 4a)

Let's give Michelle a chance to get this started eh before we start pulling th plug??? We all learn from experience and if you don't give some of us newbies a chance to star something, you'll feel like you always have to do everything ;). It was my fault that the rules havn't bee posted, Michelle emailed me but I have been run to death here at work.

Go forward Michelle and anyone who just don't want to have seeds, well, more's for us lol. God bless you all!

Mindy

Paxton, FL(Zone 8a)

Ursula, you should host one yourself, the way you want to do it, and CaptMicha and mkeilers can host this one the way they want to do it. That way everyone can be happy doing their thing the way they choose, with no hard feelings anywhere. Just my humble opinion. That way people can sign up for both or whichever suits them as far as rules are concerned.

Cedar Key, FL(Zone 9a)

Where will this be posted?
