Best Batteries

I need some of your feedback on which batteries you like to use in your Digital Camera. The throw away kind, not the rechargable ones. Can't use them with my camera. If I could get my 15 yr. old son, to quit playing with camera, my batteries might last a little longer.

I use the rechargable Nickle Cadium batteries and am really pleased with them. They are about 20.00 dollars for a set of 4 complete with the recharger. I bought 2 sets and each set lasts a lot longer than the throwaways befor needing reharged. I figured that in the first 4 weeks of using my camera I went through 2 sets of 4 batteries a day. Then I got the rechargeables and have not bought another battery since...that was six months ago. You do the math!

Hi Debbie,

Zany is right , go for rechargeable. Digital cameras EAT batteries (even without the help of the kids help). I also use a mains adapter when I want to download pictures to the PC; that also uses mega bucks worth of batteries if you are not careful.

Why can't you use re-chargeable? Is that what the manufacturer said in the info you received with the camera? That's strange.....I use re-chargeable only. No need to fill the landfills........

Your question piqued my interest because I just ordered a digital camera and accessories on Photoally.com today and had the same question; I chose a charger with four NiMH AA's (NiMH means nickel metal hydride). From what I've been reading, the new rechargeable NiMH batteries hold a charge longer than NiCD (nickel cadmium) rechargeables and can be recharged 500-1000 times.

I did a little more reading after I saw your post. This site has a chart comparing batter life for alkaline, NiMH and NiCD batteries used in various applications: http://www.sterlingtek.com/sterlingtek/nimbat4pac.html

I also found that batteries have different energy storage capacities. The higher the rating, the longer the charge will last. The storage capacity is given as maH (900maH stores less than 1500maH, etc.).

I can get the NiMH batteries locally for around $9-12 per 4-pack, depending on brand and rating.

I'm also using nichel metal hydride batteries here, and what a difference it does make!

I can usually take about 100 pictures (with flash) before I need to recharge. My camera holds 4 batties at a time.

I also have 8 batteries here and alternative them as needed. I've never gone without my camera because I always have a fresh pair. I've taken almost a thousand pictures this year with my camera, so I would have had to purchase about 10 pairs of batteries. I think the rechargables have already paid for themselves.

I have used duracell ultra in mine and they have lasted quite well. The ones in there now have been in there since christmas and they still work just fine. Mine is a polaroid digital flash camera and does not use a disk so this may be why they last longer. I use an insulin pump and have found that the everready energizers last best in it.

The nichel metal hydride sound even better than my Nicads! guess I will check them out when these are exhausted!
