i received a potted tuscan sun rosemary bush over christmas. due to my ignorance, it stayed indoors most of the winter with no direct sun. it is almost completely brown (there are some greenish brown areas) and no new growth. there is no fragrance and the leaves fall off when touched. i can however smell the fragrance when i rub the leaves in my fingers. i cut a piece of the branch off today to see if there was any green inside and there appeared to be a light yellow green underneath the bark. does this mean it's still alive? if so, what can i do to bring this back to life?
here's closeup of some of the leaves. you can also see (although blurry) where i cut the branch.
can this rosemary be saved?
Maybe you could mimic a wintering over with some time in the fridge? Then, trim off the dead branches and cover with a dome to give it a warming up?
I've never managed to bring one back that was this close to the brink. I'd cut it back pretty hard, especially any branches that seemed crunchy (no "green" or flex left in them) & hope for the best. If you see any new growth, give it a drink of water with fertilizer added. No need to put it in the fridge, as rosemary can be overwintered as a houseplant; it doesn't need time to chill out.
Good luck!
