FlowrLady,
I planted mine in dirt however it was after it had roots on it and it is growing like a weed. I am sure it would grow in dirt from the begining, I dont know what the difference would be. Let me know how yours turn out.
Thanks,
Char :o)
does anyone know about growing plants from sweet potato's???
Well I did some in dirt and some in vermiculite, the vermiculite worked much faster and with more slips coming of each slice a potato. All I did was take a tader and sliced it long ways in two pieces, layed the flat end in about an inch and a half of the vermiculite and then covered almost completely up. In vermiculite. I did 2 taders in 1 flat and the flat is slam full of slips. The thing I've got to do is cut the individual slips off of the the tader halfs and plant them. I did some in dirt also but not as many slips came off each tader half and they took longer for what ever reason. Tried some by cutting the ends and using them too. The slips form as good as my first example but just not as many cause of the ends not being as large. Just keep the vermiculite moist at all times and I put mine on a heat mat. They were up in no time. MIke
Well all I thought I would take a pic of my tator plant and let you see how it is coming along...i must say that i am excited about it. It has grown so big that i made a little trelis for it outta some bamboo sticks. It took almost 2 months to get like that...cant wait to see it 2 months from now..hehehhe it will be taking over my whole front porch.
Enjoy the pic,
Char :o)
