Rapid Growth Trees to provide privacy

Cary, NC(Zone 7a)

Hello,

I'm not familiar with trees and I'm looking for an attractive fast growing tree here in NC, may I ask for suggestions?

BTW, I have gum and cedars but would like something else if it's out there somewhere.

Yankee,
We have had to plant very fast growing trees twice in 15 yrs so I know the feeling. We needed fast shade- not privacy- as we were in full sun. A lot of the fast growing trees such as Paulownias, Silver Maples, and Hybrid Poplars have a downside. Weak wood, messy roots and fruits, seedlings everywhere, etc... I have two of the three in my own yard- but no regrets so far!!! DH says the Hybrid Poplar is THE fastest growing tree he has ever seen. We had several grow about 10-12 ft in one season!!! I also have a lone Red Tip Photinia that has grown to about 30 ft tall in 4 yrs!
Our pin and water oaks grow pretty fast but not as fast as the others mentioned.
I too have cedars and love them. They grow very fast and good for me.
The dwarf varieites of Magnolias grow fast and flower soon as well.
Also several varieties of Crepe Myrtles grow fast. Even though they lose leaves in winter, if planted close together and not pruned they can still screen pretty well.

Good luck!!
