Trimming of a Crape Myrtle

Can someone please help me, I need to know when is the best time to trim back a Crape Myrtle, I have both the trees and brushes. I planted them at the end of the summer in 2003. I trimmed back a little last year but was afraid I would kill them. But they did grow some last summer and they all bloomed.
