This year's Flower and Garden Show in Seattle last month was really a treat. The displays were breathtaking and the booths had a lot of great buys.(except for the Peonies).I hadn't realized how costly some of the Peonies were, with some over $100 ea. but they were beautiful. The surprise came today when I received my mailorder from Territorial Seed Co in Cottage Grove,Oregon.Fine company, good prices, prompt delivery and good customer service. To my surprise they charged me Washington State Sales Tax,which includes Shipping and Handling as taxable items. The reason for this it seems,is that they had a booth at the Flower and Garden Show and therefore constituted a business interest in our state. That's a rough summary, the section on delivery charges alone takes up over 1 1/2 pages.Seems to be getting harder to garden without becoming enmeshed in all the new rules and regulations.Well,we have to pay taxes for sure, but give us a break.
What the Flower and Garden Show spawned
That erks me about as much as when someone from Oregon or Alaska comes here and expects to not be charged WA state sales tax becouse of their state's tax exempt status. Nothing I can do about it but pay the tax for them when I do my business taxes.... UUUGGGGHHHHH
Wasn't the NW Flower and Garden Show just wonderful though? Got some great deals on starter plants, and lots of ideas for landscaping. :-)
