Peter Nakamura

Does anyone have a trade going with Peter Nakamura? There is a posting on the gardenweb that says he was ban... I am waiting on a large trade from him and have spoken to him several times and everything seems just fine. Is this a case of people unfairly trashing someone or .... I question what criteria was used to ban him. Did one person complain or was it a bunch. I am going to e-mail spike and ask him what is going on and will post the response I receive from him.

The posting has been removed. I also sent a letter to spike asking what happen.

So far I have seen 3 different traders looking for him, all wanted to know has he sent what were promised to them.

How long ago since you last exchange messages with him? More than 1 wk? More than 2 wks?

i finally got all my trades from peter(3)of them! it took some time but they arrived!

A trader friend told me there was bad talk about me going on here, so here I am in person.

I've been through three computers in the last six months (not including the public library). In the process, I lost files which told me who I owed what to, and I let some people down. I was also caring for a very ill relative, and when he died, I left that house, and the computer, and its files.

Lesson: always keep a hard copy. Even if your computer "just" crashes, there's no way to retrieve files from another computer.

Anyway, since that time I have been trying to retrace all those incomplete trades, and continue trading, and doing pretty well, I hope, making a lot of people happy with lots of seeds. Sometimes something gets really late, due to my disorganization, (sorry, Dori), but I always try to make up for it with generosity.

I was kicked off GardenWeb (and all of you are vulnerable to this) because one trader decided to make my life miserable. She posted nasty things under different names (but always with her own e-mail address, duh) on different forums. I did not respond on GW, because that is the number one reason why Spike kicks people off. Any bickering, you're gone. period.

Someone pointed out one of this person's inflammatory posts to Spike, and she is gone, but so am I. Doesn't matter who hit first, both kids got sent to their rooms.

We've lost a lot of good traders this way (anyone remember Seb from France?), but I understand that Spike doesn't want badmouthing all over the forums.

If anyone has any problem with me at all, please contact me directly. I'll send your seeds twice rather than have you disappointed, or even worried. I have lots of seeds and lots of patience. Sometimes I'm short in the organization department, but maybe Dave's Garden will help with that.

What happen was on the morning (~9am est) of the 31st "doris" I believe posted a message that you stifted her and a number of others on trades and because of that you were ban. I sent a e-mail to GardenWeb, no response. I posted here because the folks using this site seem to be more serious/knowledgable about folks. You and I had exchanged a number of very nice e-mails and I guess I felt funny asking if you were going to send me the seeds you had promised. I know that you changed e-mail address and... If someone stifted me on a trade a month ago I would not even remember it as I do not keep any kind of track. I trade seeds for FUN!! I have been stifted a number of times I was even sent soybeans as lupins once. You know it is actually cheaper overall to buy the seeds from Burpee or whomever than trade. But, I enjoy talking to fellow gardeners. I figure that if someone wants to be that way so what. I can't see where somone would find joy in their garden knowing that in a way they "stole" the seeds from fellow gardeners.
I do remember Seb, traded with him. How many people have been ban from the gardenweb?
BTW I am not in any rush for the seeds. Like a tell people I can't start them until Feb or march anyway.

Has anyone else noticed that Davesgarden is becoming kinda like a banned outlaw kinda site? lol!!! anyway I think it's my favorite site! It's to bad we can't all meet in person, talk and if there's time exchange seeds.

I don't recall doing anything to get banned from gw! Hmm may be Sari knows something I don't.

How true, it is cheaper to buy from burpee or other companies than trading sometime, but one would miss out the excitement. While at work, I often wonder what will be in my mail box when I get home, what new seeds , what new plants, and where from.

I was taken for a trade, I sent plants and paid for the postage in exchange for seeds, that was over 3 weeks ago and I haven't seen the seeds yet. I didn't post asking for my seeds in gw, I email the trader in private. Am I mad about it, heck no! Did I go and post messages about the trade, heck no. If someone want to be like that, then she/he can be like that, life is too short to get upset over a few seeds or plants.

Why do we trade? I don't know about you, but I started because I didn't have any seeds, and seeds I can buy in the stores are ordinary seeds. I wanted the pass along type of seeds and plants. I friends I have made in these few weeks and the info I have gained made up for any bad experiences.

hi, i am the person!! peter was posting for salvias last week. i had sent him 800 plus milkweed seeds. he was supposed to send me salvias and hummer type plants, i told him i didn't care if he sent me 10 packs or how many seeds in the pack anything would do (i still have all emails). well, when he posted for salvias 6 weeks after i sent his seeds, i did post...that i thought he had salvias when he had told me he would send me some, and that didn't he think he should finish his old trades before he started more.
He had sent 18 of us an email on 10/15 using the persimmon address which he said at the time was his friends computer and his email was still peterseeds @ something, then persimmons posted with (miafuller) in parentheses, and i have a theory that peter is really mia myers was banned in june. well, anyway, persimmons makes good on some trades, i talked to one woman he had owed for three months, several others for a couple of months, which isn't bad as mia owed several of my trading friends from where she had asked them to send $5.00 for a plant sase, 2 others who sent priority stamps, and on and on and on....
my milkweed has made thousands of seeds, and i have never been fussy with people who don't send me seeds, but something clicked, and i just hate those traders who take a lot of people and apparently think nothing of it (and trust me "peter" owes plenty!!)persimmon did send back about 1/4 of my milkweed seeds....wonder if he is sending the other 600 or so as "extras" to his happy traders.
BTW, when persimmon sent me my seeds my address was cut out of computer paper, i assume the change in computers/emails wasn't why i didn't get my trade.....also told me trading was supposed to be fun, which it is, until there is a skunk in the middle. oh and peter, by the way, i had never heard from atomic harvester until i received my copy of your email from my server.......have you found any evidence to give him?????

I’m sure Dave’s intent with this site isn’t to drag bad traders through the mud. Sooner or later anyone that does a lot of trading will get skunked. It happens and it’s a risk that we all take when trading over the Internet. We’re not trading gold coins here! I think what everyone forgets is that people have other lives outside of trading. I’ll never forget the man that posted on GW asking for people to stop sending the nasty e-mails to his wife. She had suffered a stroke and was bed ridden. She couldn’t physically complete her trades or get on the computer to respond to everyone until she recovered. Let’s please keep Dave’s site a nice one to do our trading. I don’t think bad mouthing people is necessary over a few seeds - here or on GW.

I personally have many trades that are almost 3 months old that I haven't received yet. I shrug them off, and won't trade with them again in the future (unless they make good on the trade). Thankfully I have the trading database show me who is not making good on trades - sort of my own personal blacklist.

But I won't bring that to the forum. My trade list is private and I leave it that way.

Other forums might simply ban people for talking about negative stuff. Since we don't do banning, deleting, or moderating here, it seems like it would be an easy thing to turn this into the area where people express their negative feelings. I don't want that.

I still visit Gardenweb...but like a lot of you I got the old SLAP on the wrist! For what?? I posted a Gif of a goofy bat, and said Happy Halloween on the seed exchange forum. I did follow it with a list of my seeds. I guess I was too "artistic" and not serious enough. Yes, that was quoted. But, I scanned through and saw many of the favorites had done the same things. Bet they didn't get "spanked" hehehe....I even learned how to do the Gif from one of the fav's. Kind of ironic, dontcha think?
I have traded with Peter in the past. He sent me his seeds within a week. He was very generous and had friendly emails. I'm not trying to make anyone angry at me. I know we all have different experciences in life and I guess I just felt bad for Peter and wanted to give him one positive post. I too hospiced a dying Grandmother and know how hard!!!!!!!!!! it is to keep your life going and get back into things afterwards.

I too wanted to boost some warm thoughts for Peter. He was a little slow on my last trade and didn't send all he was going to, but remember what was going on...switching computers and swapping large amounts of trades and he admitted he might not be so organized. I may have messed up too before I kept better track of trades. He didn't do anything on purpose so let's give him a break.

I myself have exchanged several friendly emails with Peter. We were to trade my moss for his passiflora incarnata. The moss was left outside to dry during the weekend and the neighbor's cat must have scattered it all over the yard because when I came back there were only a few little clumps. He told me not to worry about it, and that he would be happy to send me the seeds anyway.

No one was really giving Peter a hard time. I think the whole thing got started when Sari and I posted traders on gardenweb were looking for him.

Hi Theresa! I thought the bat in your post was cute! You received a warning for that?? I have seen several of the favorites did the same thing. Go figure!

Just want to say I'm not to be mistaken for the "doris" mentioned in earlier post. I'm very new, may make mistakes, and wonder if I'm doing things correctly, but I don't know Peter and have not bad mouthed him. I was taught that you "treat others as you want to be treated" and "don't say anything if you can't say something nice"! I want to say that I have met many nice folks in the last month. I started visiting the forums about the first of October and became a member of Dave's group shortly after. I have learned a lot and am learning more everyday from you all. I have had several folks send me seeds for SASE and have actually made a couple of trades. Thanks for all your help and kindness shown to me. I'll just keep asking to be able to SASE until I can grow as you all have! Thanks again from a happy "newbie". Doris

I had no idea the can of worms I opened when I asked if/why Peter had been ban. For the record I received no response from GW.
I also had no idea that everyone and their brother, 3 cats, 2 dogs, 2 golfish, and hamster had been ban.
I have been really sorry I asked. Every since I made this posting and learned some of what is going on... I guess that ignorance is bliss. And before I made this posting I had lots of bliss. I would much rather be stiffed for ten trades than find out everything I have. I guess I used to think that ALL gardeners were... well a different breed. Now it seems that my bubble has been burst that there may be some not so nice gardeners out there (I AM NOT refering to Peter). Since I made this post I have been SO sorry I even asked the question. I just don't enjoy trading like I did.

To put it like a gardener: This "annual" has had a hard frost so lets let it die and prepare for next year. I don't know about the rest of you but next years garden is always better than this years. I guess it's because I don't dream about the weeds. LOL!!

I'm curious, just how many coneflower plants do you have, if you don't mind me asking.

I have an area about 200 square feet of purple coneflower. I am trying to get a bed of 2000-3000 square feet. Also, this year I am going to try getting a 1000 square foot bed of yellow coneflower. I have about 140 square feet of Rudbeckia Goldquelle that needs divided, should cover about 300 square feet when I'm done.
This year I am also trying to expand my 300 square foot daylily bed to over 5000 square feet. That's why I am collecting so many daylily seeds. I figure it will take 3 year to get to my goal.
This current year I planted about 6000 square feet of different kinds of sunflowers. It was awesome!
Can you tell I plant a lot of what I like?

I can't beleive Libby's post. I am very upset by it.

I really feel for you. I am one of the old folks on the forums and honestly, I have never ever read something like what Libby wrote. Stuff like that is usually done privately not on a forum.

I would be just devestated to read something like that about me. My baby had a heart operation when he was born in May, I was stuck for 1 month in a hospital away from home. I am so glad I was not trading with you because I would probably have a bad reputation by now. I had about 15 trades going on at that moment and some were late to begin with and when I came back, I had not one bad email in my inbox. People usually come thru (well not all people) (LOL) but honestly, if they don't come thru, WHO CARES, like someone else mentionned, just don't trade with them in the futur.

Libby, this is not and I say NOT THE PLACE to do that kind of thing. You might have had a bad experience with our Pete, but some of us have had very good experiences with him.

Libby, I think you should find a new hobby. Seed trading is fun and very addictive. You should stop while you are in advance. I have been burned by more than 60 traders over the years. I don't even care. I got so much from all of the others.

Peter, in your defence, I received a wonderful package of daylily seeds from you and actually planted some just last night. I was very satisfied. You even sent me so many of each colour that I have shared a little of each with 5 other people. Also, I was reading about your computer problems so you probably don't know that you haven't told me what you want from my list yet. I will email it to you privately.

Dave, I know that you didn't set up this forum for the kind of words that Libby wrote. In her behalf, and I know I talk for all the others, I am sorry for that attitude. And Libby, if you have a complaint about what I just wrote, my email is tinadrouin@videotron.ca Learn to do it privately.

I am not a frequent poster although I read everything that goes by, but this time I just had to give the advice.

you luv to garden and so do we. i have looked all over for foxtail lily-guess where i found them.? PETER sent me some..im so happy! thanks so much i have 5 boys and some times i forget to get a trade out, but if you email me and remind me..i promise to fill it, as peter has! i have so many seeds from trading im not sure where to start....proably the foxtail lily seeds then the gas plant!
i use to trade beanies-i got a few fakes, never did i post anything bad as long as they made good on their trade!
so much over FREE seeds...come on! lets get back in the garden dirt and not this dirt! =]

I'm working on some trades with Peter and I find him a real delight to exchange e-mails with, if nothing else!

I think the pettiness of some of the traders and the badmouthing that goes on is absolutely ridiculous. There are often times one can fall into life's pitfalls and get behind on worse things than trading seeds. If you're so hard-up for a seed, go for a walk in the forest! God gives them out for free all the time. (Hope I don't get the lashing with the wet noodle for bringing HIM into this, LOL).
