This is for the non-subscribers who will not be able to respond.
Also for the people who have sent me off the wall emails lately "You Know who you are" If you have no money for the subscription, as I have been told in many emails. Then don't ask for seeds from me. You can't afford to grow them! And you need to keep that $1.00 it will cost you for the sase. You need to save every penny you can. If you would like to set up a trade, or are interested in seeds from my post. Then email me with your list. I am always willing to help someone aquire seeds they are looking for. But refused to be B.S.'d
If the thread is marked Closed...Do not ask if their are any seeds left..This just shows how ignorant you are for asking and won't be getting an answer.
Happy Gardening!
Kim
My Seeds, Weezy's , sase's...Trades!
Dear Kim,
Please send me some of the following: Everything you used to have, everything thing you have now,and everything you might have in the future.
Gail
Ha ha ha ha !!! LMBO!!!!!
thought you'd appreciate that!
Dear Kim,
I run an non profit one income household. After going through last year's revenue reports, only one conclusion can be deducted. I am poor. And seeds sent my way, (I can't afford postage either) would be greatly appreciated. Money can be sent in lieu of seed. I'm in the address exchange.
Thanks!
:)
LMBO!!! You gals are badddddddd!
Kim, you mean you actually want to get something in return for your seeds ! What a dreamer you are ! :) LOL
Kim, I'm so sorry you were placed in the middle of some bygone trade of mine. How unfortunate the trader did not contact me directly. I really hope that anyone who is unhappy with a trade with me will contact me, or even leave negative feedback on my homepage... not slander me to others or call me a 'scammer'.
It is disconcerting that non-members can access the forums, and when unable to post, rather than pay for subscribership, just email us. It is rude, rude, rude.
Don't let it get you down, Weez - anyone who know you knows that you are THE BEST!
Happy gardening. (And let's hope the slugs slime THOSE people!)
Weez you read what I wrote ya about it! No profanity here on Dave's right??? ha ha ha LMBO!!!!
I'm glad you handled it and not me! You're wayyyyyy tooo nice..ha ha ha

It bothers me that someone can become a member without subscription, but still participate in the forums by reading, then emailing. Thanks, Sequee. People who like to slime others usually get slimed later on down the road. I'm gonna let this person find her own slugs. Meanwhile, I've sent an email and I've got the seeds I received in trade in an envelope ready to go back to her. It's just unfortunate that things like this happen.
Kim & WZ,
Just wanted to say publically how much I've appreciated the generosity you've both shown me! You know I (and many others) will be running to the seed stash every time either of you posts a "want" list, to see if I can send you something you'd love!
There's such a warm & generous community of folks on this forum. Don't let the bad apples get you down.... Shame on them!
Somebody bad mouthed you?! Who did it? >:( They're not worth your time.
geez Kim. Weezy i was hoping to beg, borrow and steal all your seeds so i could have a sale on eBay. Shoot
hahahahaaa!
kareoke - that's really tacky! I was gonna get them all for FREE so I could add them to my trade list - it's really lacking!
Hey, Kareoke, I'll shovel up a gunny sack full and send 'em to ya! Thanks, Critter, I feel the same way about everybody on DG. Everytime I open a bag of seeds and start planting them to little containers, I see the name of the person who sent them to me, and I feel good about it. I don't ever want anyone to feel bad about something I send them, whether I traded it or sent it for free. All I ask is that you contact me first. I don't think that is too much to ask.
Everytime I see some problem on DG, it's just a matter of communication. Once in awhile, we get someone who isn't on the same wave length, but generally, with an open mind and some effort, we work it out. If not, admin comes in and sends us in a corner for 'time out'. I really hate to see a few problems make it difficult for non-subscribers to trade or SASE on DG, but each time someone abuses the options here, it makes it harder and harder to feel generous.
Let me be fair.. this person may have had a ligitimate complaint. The package I sent may have had more chaff than seed. If so, I would have appreciated a message to let me know. I would have made every effort to make it right. It gives me a creepy feeling to think that someone who is not a subscriber can visit the threads, then email individual subscribers warning them that I am a scammer. It just isn't right. If Kim had not let me know, I would have been none the wiser, and maybe someone would have thought less of me.
I just thought of something. If some of you guys send me some free seeds, and them maybe some of them do not come true, ........................... Do I get my money back?
Weez - what is going on up there? Juneau is 27 today and frozen solid...... I got a few new lilacs in during a warm spell last week but someone sent us some cold weather.
Heh, If I send a SASE can any of your other guys send some sunshine and about 60 degree days back to me?
Thanks,
Rick
Hi, Rick! Yes, I can send you some of our balmy weather, but I'm not sure about the sun. When it's sunny here it gets cold. When it's rainy it's warm in the winter months. You're down in the tropics of Alaska, so 27 is a big deal! What a bummer about the lilacs! I hope they bounce back. We've had some really warm weather this spring... hardly any snow to deal with. My DH & son took about 65 flats out to my greenhouse this morning, so, of course, it's turning chilly. I hope the little oil heater does its job. If not, we have a remote thermometer on it with a very noisy alarm!
Sunshine and 60 degrees? You'll have to attached 2 $.49 postage to cover that.
You've got 60F, Kim?? I'll send you a couple big bubble wraps, $5 in stamps, and a big thank you for that!
ha ha ha ha!!!
You're a hoot, Weez - a little chaff??? Geez - what's a seed without a little chaff? LOL! I with Kim in that I do NOT care if I only get a few seeds in a trade - as long as they're good seeds. When I dig into the chaff and break out a seed or 2, it makes me grin, like I found the prize in the Cracker Jacks! You can't help but wonder how these people react to a REAL CRISIS!?!
i am sorry this has happened to two wonderful people. you both have great big hearts. i dont know all the details and that doesnt matter. you both are fantastic and to think someone did this too you 2 is just plain bad.
hmm i had 75 here today. last week it was in the 30s i will send my wacky weather to who ever wants it.
now its fixing to get realy wacky because the Masters golf tournament is fixing to be here. last year everyone who came into town was expecting hot sunny weather. what they got was freezing rain.
so i will gladly share. LOL :)
imzadi, 75 degrees?? I don't even get that in the middle of summer! Hope the golfers appreciate the nice weather!
Wow!!!! you and CaptMicha both are the wonderful personalities, because you have started threads for non-subscribers , now they are also with us.
kaleem
shoot ill be glad when its all over. we get people from everywhere coming to this 7 day event.
nothing not even weather scares them off. i want it to stay like it was today. i dont want the 100 degree weather we will have in a few months.
i dont like it tooo cold or too hot but in the middle is fine with me. but thats not possible here.
75 not in the summer either??? goodness i dont know what id do if it stayed colder then 70 all the time. wow
Thanks gumlla. By they way, long time no see! Just where have you been Mister?!
This incident is inexcusable! But I think these little heads up to non-subscribers are a good thing. After all, they can only see the first threads, so they don't know what is commonly practiced.
Not that all of them really care but I'm sure there's some that do.
hehehe, Rick.... just had to note that Gurney's sent me free seeds last year, including a packet of pepper seeds that did not come true (they were chiles, yes, but nothing like habaneros).... I complained, although I did note that I was on shaky ground grousing about free seeds, and they sent me a merchandise credit for $10 !!! Needless to say, I ordered from them again this year, as I'm sure they knew I would! :-) Yes, trading is a bit of a gamble, but I think most people are well intentioned. I know how hard I'm hoping that the seeds I saved & sent out all germinate and come true for everyone -- especially since I'm new at this!
Seriously, when I subscribed this January and started into things here, I figured that, if every couple of trades produced 1 thing I wanted badly enough that I'd have been happy to to order it from a seed company, I'd be ahead. Trading works out much better than that! My garden will look fabulous with all these new varieties, especially if my wintersowing efforts are at all successful! DH notes that buying stamps was money well spent, as this is the first time in years I've been able to resist all those sale offers from my favorite companies! I keep paging through the catalogs, saying, oh, yes, I have seeds for that! Wow!!
I still think it's not a bad idea to ask people to read the trading primer (again, if necessary!) when you slap them down for a rude request.... so much of it is just common sense or common courtesy; I don't know what some people can be thinking!
Sequee
check my seed list. IT IS EMPTY LOL
Hahahahahahah - you win!
Before I deleted most of my plant and seed list, I got those demanding emails all the time too. I don't see too many of them lately. I did get one a month or so that provoked me and I wrote with a less than nice reply which I felt bad about but I did receive another E from them which I returned another reply to and have not heard from them again. I ended up apologizing for my shortness, told them to come up with the money for a sub, then post asking for seeds for sase and they would be overwhelmed with generosity.
Basically, their E said they just got a new house, new car, new beds, this and that and blah blah blah and they can't afford a membership here or plants and seeds and they want a big beautiful garden full of plants. Then they flat out said they could not even afford postage!
My reply to them was that I had a mortgage, two car payments, two jobs and six kids and that I could not afford to give stuff away. I further went on to say that should at least offer postage!!
I am generally a giving person that will just pop stuff in the mail for free if I can afford it but I think that email took a lot of coconuts!
I do also want to add that I just did a decent size seed swap and traded with several non subscribed people and all of them came through! I have yet to see the other end of the trade from a subscriber or two. Hmmmm. I have not written to them or anything either. The trades were not a big deal but I did want to add something nice about some non subscribers. :) A few never sent postage but I am used to that as well.
When I first came into Dave's last July I got email from someone who said they wanted to trade but would rather use their reg. email she said she had seeds I wanted, I asked what she wanted and she said a couple of bucks would take care of it, dumb me sent it, after a month I sent email and she said she had been busy and they were in the mail. very slow mail still have not arrived.
OH MY!!!!
I try to keep good records. I have a word document on each transaction. I cut and paste all my email correspondence to these documents, add notation as to when I sent the seeds and a notation as to whether I am 'Awaiting seeds & confirmation of receipt' or 'Transaction Completed. I have folders of 'Trades Pending', 'Trades Sent', 'Trades Completed', 'Canceled Trades', and 'Unsatisfactory Trades'.
If someone contacts me for seeds and the name set off an alarm bell in my feeble little brain, I check my "Unsatisfactory" and "Canceled" folders to see if I've had a bad experience before. Every week or so, I go through the 'Sent' folder and update the docs with any data I've received since I put the doc there... such as emails someone sends me to let me know my seeds have arrived, or my emails to them that theirs have arrived. If we've both gotten our seeds, the doc goes into the 'Completed' folder. If two weeks go by without any contact, I follow up with emails.
This is a lot of work, but I have a lousy memory and this keeps me and everybody else honest, or at least, accountable.
Ack, Kareoke! Wasn't me was it? Hey, I never ask for more than $1 and that is for a LOT of seeds or big seeds. :)
Weezing, I would love to say I am that organized but here lately, I am in good shape if I make sure we all have enough clean underwear to last the week. LOL There was a time when I could tell you every person that sent extra seeds, extremely fertile seeds, no seeds or didn't reimburse postage. I had to give up. I just keep a notebook until it's full with sent and received in it then toss it when it is full. I try to think everyone is as busy as I am. Ya think? :)
i am lucky if i have sent and recieved written down. i would hate to think i ever cheated anyone for anything on my end. with kids and a hubby and a house to run i am lucky if i dont lose my trade book.
Badseed no way, I have since discovered that this person joined 4/27/02 but no longer listed, and never became a paid member
You know guys. If these are the worst problems that we will encounter in our lives, we really have it pretty good. Don't you think?
I think about all the people I see throughout a day and ( I am a dentist) I have to tell people lots of things that sometimes they do not want to hear.
What would you rather have, a person who shorted you on a trade or would you rather need a couple of root canals done?
Our gardening woes sometimes pale ..........
Last year I planted several tomato plants and I was so happy that I could eat a tomato that did not taste like cardboard.........
Just trying to keep a perspective on these things.
Sincerely,
Rick
BTW - Off topic -
Today is Ellen and my 35th anniversary!!! It sure went quickly.
Sincerely,
Rick
