CLOSED: New spider
It's a long-front-legged scary spider!!!!!!!!!!! Your photos aren't good for my nerves lately Rich LOL
-Julie
sorta looks like a relative to the black widow. either way i wouldnt mess with it. may have a nasty bite.
Yeah, I agree, with imzadi, the body looks an awful lot like a black widow. I would guess it is another of the member of the Cobweb Spiders Family (Theridiidae).

Going through the pictures on Buigguide.net and doing a bit of googleing, to me it most resembles those from the genus Steatoda.

Oh, hey!
And it looks like the exact one which has been submitted to the spider identification page here. It's about 3 down, from 2 March 2005. Unfortunately, not identified yet...

I agree with eje that it is in the Theridiidae and it looks very like a Steatoda species. Here is a link to a Steatoda grossa picture that looks very close to your spider.

Here is another Australian species from the Theridiidae, which was called a Steatoda, but has been changed recently to an Achaearanea species. This one was found in our garden the same day that Fay found the Red-back Spider.
It is a very hairy, multi-eyed spider from a creepy family!
It looks like one of the Jumping Spiders, the Salticidae. There are a great number of species and I cannot find your one. Here is a web site with pictures of many Jumping Spiders http://tolweb.org/accessory/Jumping_spiders_of_America_North_of_Mexico?acc_id=66 . Too many to search through I think!!!
shudder.......
My own fault - I should have known better than to peek in here before bedtime! Ugh.....I'll be tossing and turning all night now ;o)
You won't be alone, Terry.
It' a long way to Ca. Sleep easy.

ROTFL John. Creepy and scary and downright shudder-inducing is how I see that first one. The second one I don't like simply because he jumps....he's not too creepy in the pic though.

One always feels like being watched by those jumping spiders :)
Okay, Here is what we are going to do to resolve this plight. Put the spider on the Bloodsteak plant and then- FLUSH!!!! Marilynne
Isn't that Bloodsteak plant something?
John
We have jumping spiders here too, but I actually don't mind them (and I am NOT a bug lover, SPECIALLY spiders). They eat TONS of bad bugs and flys and they are happy to skitter away when you walk up. They get big, abdomens as big as the fingernail on my ring finger! If they would only eat the black widows I'd really be happy. I have to go out at night with a flashlight and spider spray once I spot a widow web. I HATE that!

we have jumpy spider here too. are are black fuzzy white white dots. hmm hard to swat when jumping around from cats trying to get them.
for the "bloodsteak" plant check here: http://davesgarden.com/pf/showimage/12349/
I think Corky meant the Beefsteak plant AKA Blood leaf plant.

I got it wrong but, its Corky's fault. LOL
