Our "Snowstorm" fizzled out

Fritch, TX(Zone 6b)

I posted more detail in the weather forum. But a Texas can sure appreciate this amount of snow...
6 inches to be exact, good thing I got a picture before it melted!

I hope you had not put out those tomatoes yet. What was your low temp?

Fritch, TX(Zone 6b)

Oh, I don' t recall, but it was supposed to be about 24 or so. I stayed up late to bring in the trays of cold crops late. But a friend in Amarillo left her same crops (I grew them from the same litter LOL) outside all night. They have more windprotection there, and a slightly different microclimate. She even has snady soil!!!
No, tomatoes are still in, but I WISH I had put out a couple with water teepees. They would be covered in a warm blanket of snow with a nice pocket of air around them, and it would be a neat experiemnt. But, alas, I delayed in ordering my ultra early varities, so they are just getting their first true leaves and are still in jiffy pellets in the DR under the palnt lites (spoiled rotten!)

It looks like 4 inches to me, still coming down. My kids want to go out and play, but it is still too cold, just about freezing. The weather men say Fritch has seven inches, but I don't see it. And Amarillo has ten inches already, and may recieve 10 more in som elocations, for a total of 20 inches in AMarillo in ONE DAY.

I remember in 1983 (lived in AMarillo), we had a similar storm, a little later, maybe April. More than two feet of snow, drifts to 6 foot. Our fridge broke, and Sears couldn't get out to fix it (no one could), so we kept our milk on the deck in a snow drift. I was young, and a friend/neighbor and I dug tunnels through the snow to each others houses!

Here is a better pic from upstairs...sorry it is not the best, I need new batteries, but WONT be going to the store, not even for milk LOL

Wow! 20 inches in Amarillo - will be crazy if it happens. I love the story about when you were little. You guys had early snow this year and late snow this year. I think I would be tired of it for sure.

Fritch, TX(Zone 6b)

Yeah, but the wonderful, mild, not too cold or icy weather in between was worth it. I know folks up north are tired of snow, but this makes only the third time we have had any accumulation. We won't complain, and when it melts, all my outdoor chores will still be there...

Fritch, TX(Zone 6b)

Guess this turned into a duet. LOL I thought the picture was kinda funny, esp compared to today. Guess 20 inches of snow in Texas just doesn't make headlines anymore,,, sigh.... :^]

McKinney, TX(Zone 8a)

LOL You just had so much this year. Before we were jealous, back a couple months ago, when we wanted to see a little. Now we just want to not be reminded of it. :-)

Gordonville, TX(Zone 7b)

Whats the latest news?

Fritch, TX(Zone 6b)

You won't believe this (sure you will), but it is STILL SNOWING!

Earlier today, around supper, it sounded more like sleet under the metal carport when I was bringing in more wood. yep, built another fire.

Wish I had new camera batteries, it is like a winter fairyland out there. The wind is gone, the flakes are smaller (well normal size for the rest of the coutry), but there are a LOT of them. Just drifting down, ever so politely, with the background noise of melting snow dripping from the rooftop...

And I in my kerchief, and.... oh, where did I go off to? Snap out of it Tamara! I guess it just feels like Christmas all over again @:-D

The boys were disappointed because it is not warm enough, or dry enough, to play in right now, but of course, I turned the dog loose for the day! She had a blast!!!

Thanks for the photos. I had been watching the Weather Channel was amazed at all the white stuff in your neck of the woods. I had just taken a lot of my plants out of the greenhouse on Monday not having looked at the weather forecast for this week. They all went back in today. Wednesday night is supposed to be in the upper 30s in Metro San Antonio and my location usually is a couple of degrees colder. You never know how low it is really going to go and I didn't want them to go into shock after being in the greenhouse all winter.

Gordonville, TX(Zone 7b)

Your weather just isn't coming east to my house! Not the interesting stuff anyway. Nothing but gray dreary skies. Nothing is going to grow with these temps. At least it hasn't froze.....yet.

Fritch, TX(Zone 6b)

Sunshine and rain is headed your way JOHN.

Htop, yes, Texas weather is so amazing. We spoil and baby our plants, then it is hard to know how/when to start hardening. I still don't have it down to a science :-)

Gordonville, TX(Zone 7b)

I hope so, Fritch.

Toadsuck, TX(Zone 7a)

We had a snow watch for late last night.............but it was a no blow!

"eyes"

Fritch, TX(Zone 6b)

hahahaha that's fuuny!

Deep South Coastal, TX(Zone 10a)

Your snow is beautiful, but please don't send it south, lol.
It was 52 at my house this morning, 49 at work and drizzling rain. Brrrrrrr, that's cold! I thought it was spring.

Gordonville, TX(Zone 7b)

It WAS!

Fritch, TX(Zone 6b)

Silly John, look at your Calendar, first day of Spring isn't for a week yet... But it will be in the 60s here tomorrow. Most of the snow has melted, but not before we built a BIG snowman!

Gordonville, TX(Zone 7b)

Got proof?

Fritch, TX(Zone 6b)

My calendar says the spring equinox is Sunday, March 20th. Sounds like just around the corner to me :-P

Gordonville, TX(Zone 7b)

:-P

Fritch, TX(Zone 6b)

Now stop that pouting, I read on the other thread where you are having a sunny day. :-) Are you just on edge because you got so used to grey skies and now you actually miss them?

Gordonville, TX(Zone 7b)

No ma'm, I do not miss the grey skies! It was sunny but, cool today. Even had to irrigate some b/c its starting to get a little dry. Wouldn't mind that except that water is expensive around here. Always somethin to whine about!

Fritch, TX(Zone 6b)

Maybe if it would snow ther you wouldn't have to water

Gordonville, TX(Zone 7b)

I'd rather water, thanks!

Fritch, TX(Zone 6b)

no pleasin' you...

Gordonville, TX(Zone 7b)

Rain would please me. They'd lift the burn ban, maybe. I need to burn some stuff.
