I notice yours has a lot of leaves missing, all my brugs are starting to loose there leaves also but they are also putting on new ones.

I can't wait for a bud then a bloom, you are real lucky, I want one so bad, but in due time. Mine are just starting to Y.

Meade, KS(Zone 6a)

Yep
Not many leaves due to spider mites, that is why I was so surprised that they could support a bloom....but I just started the tea tree oil solution on the mites and it really seems to be helping...also starting to fertilize more. Other than that it is just blind luck on my part..nice to se anothre KSn here.....Janet

What a happy sight!!!

Goshen, OH(Zone 6a)

janetlee, tell me about the tea leave oil solution?

San Leandro, CA(Zone 9b)

The leaves you do have are sure green! They get leaves so quickly!! Soon you will have tons of both, leaves and flowers.

Meade, KS(Zone 6a)

Hi Thinkdirt
This is a solution that was posted on this forum under the title :Possible alternatives to spider mite ,,on March 8th. here is one persons potion that I used

1 tsp. tea tree oil, 1 tbsp Palmolive soap to a gal of water. I am spraying it on every third day... this is MaVieRose's potion.

Woodsville, NH(Zone 4a)

Very nice Janetlee. If you're getting buds and blooms now I can't wait to see what they do this summer for you.

Goshen, OH(Zone 6a)

thank janetlee for the info I will try this, as I have a continous problem with mites.

Janet,

We'll get your DD addicted to growing Brugs too!

I certainly hope to see you at the end of May, if you have a free moment in between holding your soon-to-be grandson and tending your DD's garden! Our R.U. is scheduled for the end of June, will you be able to join us? Wonder if your daughter would like to come. Only 45 minute drive from Hagerstown!

BTW, where did you find tea tree oil? I can't get rid of those darn spider mites!

Meade, KS(Zone 6a)

Shirley
Believe it or not, I just went into out hometown drugstore , and there it was...bet any discountor pharmacy has it. I have just sprayed a couple of time and still do not see any mites again. Yes, that RU might be just when I am there.....and would love to come.....just keep me advised as to where and when......Janet

Ellicott City, MD(Zone 7a)

Fantastic! I'll send you a link for the R.U.

I'll also check with our local drugstore and see if they have tea tree oil. Thanks!

San Leandro, CA(Zone 9b)

It is good for rooting cuttings too I think I heard on here. I keep saying I will get it but I don't. I wonder if I just added it to my foliar fertilizer if it would be a mite deterrent.

Ellicott City, MD(Zone 7a)

Well, if tea tree oil pulls "double duty" with helping to deter spider mites, as well as, helping with root cuttings, it's already a two time winner in my book!

Meade, KS(Zone 6a)

Update...still no spider mite webs.....Janet

Ellicott City, MD(Zone 7a)

That's great news! When you're here in May, back sure to stop over and spray all my Brugs too! :~)

Chariton, IA(Zone 5b)

Wish someone could figure out how to get rid of whiteflies. Congrats Janet. I hope you don't have any trouble this summer either. Mites are a real pain. I had clover mites one year. Oh my gosh...they are worse than spider mites. I was lucky that the brugs were full size and could help fight them off. LOL!

Kannapolis, NC(Zone 7b)

I'd like to get rid of white flies also, Shirley. I've sprayed a little of everything, even set off an Ortho insect bomb inside the greenhouses and they're still there.

Ellicott City, MD(Zone 7a)

Mites are a real problem during the Wintertime! Once our Brugs can go outside in the fresh air, their leaves will green up and they will feel much better! So will I !!

Deep South Coastal, TX(Zone 10a)

Janetlee, I never knew you could use that much tea tree oil, I'm gonna try it on mealie bugs.
Congrats on your flowers.

San Leandro, CA(Zone 9b)

Gee Ada, I hate to sound like a commercial for Bayers Tree and Shrub but you should try it for your whitefly. I know it is too expensive for all your brugs, but maybe they will fly over to your treated ones and take a bite.

Harrisville, MI(Zone 5b)

Glad to see she made it,this is the Species from Shirley.

Harlem, GA(Zone 8a)

Looked at Walmart last night and they didn't have tree oil. They looked at me like I was crazy or something. I've never seen all the oil's they have to offer in ALL my life.... they're were so many!!!

I'm checking with the Pharmacy at CVS, well....call first lol

Meade, KS(Zone 6a)

I don't know if this will help find tea tree oil ...The brand is Herbal Harvest and is is used as a topical to the skin (what for??) It comes from a tree that grows in Australia.....Hope this helps. Janet

Ellicott City, MD(Zone 7a)

Tea tree oil has some remarkable properties. According to articles on the www, it's antibacterial, antiseptic, fungicidal & germicidal. Hopefully, this oil will help to irradicate those mites!

High Desert, CA(Zone 8a)

Julie/brugaddict, it is not tree oil, but TEA TREE OIL, no wonder u can't find it. walmart carries the Herbal Harvest, Inc. brand name. ask the pharmacy clerk @ walmart to find tea tree oil in the pharmacy dept. it is a brown bottle with mustard color label. the bottle contain 2 fl.oz. hth.

Meade, KS(Zone 6a)

Shirley...thanks for the insite and keep me posted on your brugs
Thanks for coming to the rescue MaVieRose.

Tea Tree oil is wonderful, useful for lots of stuff. It will burn if not diluted. I dilute it for use on my Goldens, for a scrape, cut or bite, and I use diluted Miracle Coat, a shampoo with tea tree oil, as my regular shampoo for the dogs...and occasionally on my own hair, works nicely on my gray...

High Desert, CA(Zone 8a)

u're welcome Janetlee. http://www.uq.net.au/~zzttrees/teatreeoil.html

Goshen, OH(Zone 6a)

sherrylike, Will tea oil work on a dog that is algerglic to grass and chews on his feet all the time, I have done green tea soaks that seems to help some, all the vets say is but booties on his feet. How do you keep booties on a 80 lb dalamation? LOL

San Leandro, CA(Zone 9b)

Geee, I may just take a bath in it myself. Pour it on!!!

High Desert, CA(Zone 8a)

tea tree oil is super strong and potent! be careful when u use it. for humans it will burn ur skin if not careful!

Harlem, GA(Zone 8a)

Ooooooops, Thank you MaVie, now that does it, I know I'm losing it. *sigh* They had that too cos' I saw it! :( There is just way too much going on in my life right now and I can't even think it seem's anymore...SCAR-rrrrrrrrrrrrrrrry! Can you give me the mixture again please. I'm going to Walmart tonight again. Thanks in advance.

SE Arky, United States(Zone 8a)

MaVie, is correct tea tree is strong/potent and I don't know of anything growing that it won't burn, if not diluted.

thinkdirt, my daughter had a Dal, hyper, lived to 15+, always chewed her feet. Often a dog with autoimmune will chew, and a depressed, stressed, boarded dog will often chew his feet. There are lots of things that will help with the chewing, but it's best, of course, to figure out what is causing the chewing. Food is one of the first places you might check, maybe a simple food change will help. I give a dog with any sort of problem more attention and that works pretty often. I like an over the counter product for 'itch relief': Veterinarian's Best, Hot Spot Itch Relief Spray, with Tea Tree Oil & Soothing Aloe. I think it's sold at places like Pets R US, and or other chains, but not WalMart (here) I ordered a case, years ago, and it's inexpensive, but I don't know how much it is at the chains. For an itchy dog, there are instructions on the back for using it as a 'comb-on' and 'after-bath', that can be left on. If I had a dog that chewed it's feet, I'd bathe the dog, use the 'after-bath', leave it on, then make up a cup or so full and dip the dog's feet in it. I'll think of some other itch stuff and let you know. I doubt your dog will quit itching until you find the source. Did the vet say the dog was allergic to grass or were tests run? Either way, I don't have much faith in most allergy solutions, with exception of raw diet. One of the most common things dogs are allergic to is chicken, raw or kibble. Please let me know how it goes. Oh, forgot, one other thing that might cause the chewing is hip and, or elbow dysplasia, which sometime cuts of the circulation and makes the dog's feet tingle, so they chew to wake them up...Good Luck!!!

Goshen, OH(Zone 6a)

thanks Sherrylike, great info. He is hyper and has siezures since he was a pup but those are under control with phenobarbital. He is six years old and has always chewed on his feet until they are raw, The vet said he was algerlic to grass and also has recurring ear problems when the weather gets damp and going to rain he starts digging at them, I have a dog that predicts the weather LOL. He has had two ear surgeries since October from Hematoma's caused from slapping his ears. Right now everything is fine with him except for his feet and the Green Tea soak seems to help when it gets really bad. If you look at the dog the wrong way he gets something good thing I love him so much LOL. Will be my last dalamation would think I would know better as I worked for a vet and managed a dog grooming place for years give me a MUTT anytime. Never thought about dysplasia I will be sure to mention that to my vet
